Audio:  Spalding coach Seth Harris discusses upcoming state playoff series with Cartersville

The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes will meet the Spalding Jaguars starting with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday in the Class AAAA state baseball playoffs at Richard Bell Field in Cartersville.

The best-of-three series would conclude with a rubber game on Thursday at 5 p.m. if needed.

Cartersville, who has assured home games until the neutral site finals, won its opening-round series with Pickens in a doubleheader sweep April 27 and won two of three against defending state champ Marist last Thursday and Friday.

The Hurricanes won the Region 5-AAAA title and are 27-8 this season.

Spalding, the 4th-seed from Region 2-AAAA, knocked off Region 1-AAAA champion Northside-Columbus in the first round of the state playoffs. Northside won the playoff opener 8-2, but Spalding bounced back to win Games 2 and 3 of that series 8-5 and 3-1. The Jaguars (17-16) then defeated Cross Creek of Augusta 13-5 and 5-1 last Thursday to reach the state quarterfinals against the Canes.

Charles Wilson of BartowSportsZone.com visited briefly with Spalding head baseball coach Seth Harris Monday morning to discuss the Jaguars' playoff run and the upcoming series with Cartersville.
