Cartersville softball improved to 4-5 on the season and won in region play for the first time this season with a 3-2 home victory over Ridgeland Tuesday. The Lady Canes are now 1-3 in region play.
Tara Mathis struck out five in a complete game win in the circle for the Lady Canes. She allowed five hits and seven walks.
Cartersville scored three runs on three hits — all in the fourth inning. Paris Poston, Taylor Waits, and Kennedy Bailey had the Cartersville hits while they built a 3-1 advantage.
