Lady Tigers fall to Lumpkin County in state playoffs

The Adairsville girls soccer team lost to eighth-ranked Lumpkin County Tuesday night at Tiger Valley to bring the Lady Tigers’ 2019 season to a close.

Adairsville battled the visiting Indians well into the second half, but ultimately fell 4-1 in the first round game of the GHSA Class AAA state tournament.

The Lady Tigers’ defensive backline and some solid goalkeeping by senior Havyn Isaac helped Adairsville reach intermission in a scoreless tie.

Lumpkin County scored first in the second half to take a 1-0 lead, but sophomore Cat Wheeler scored her 28th gaol of the year to tie the game 1-1.

The goal by Wheeler broke the Adairsville school record for goals by a sophomore.

The Indians (12-6) kept up the pressure, however, and scored the final three goals of the contest to advance to the Round of 16.

Adairsville finishes the season with a 10-5-1 mark, qualified for the state playoffs for a seventh consecutive season, and was Region 6-AAA runner-up.
