Adairsville volleyball earns state tourney berth

Adairsville volleyball finished 2-2 in the Region 6-AAA tournament and it was good enough to earn a No. 4 seed for the upcoming Class AAA state tournament.


 

Adairsville won its tournament opener Thursday at home over Murray County and then finished 1-2 in matches Saturday at LaFayette.


 

The Tigers stretched No. 2 seed Sonoraville to three sets in the tournament semifinals before falling 17-25, 25-21, 15-9.


 

Adairsville then went to the elimination bracket needing a win to keep its season alive.


 

The Tigers responded by holding on for a 25-21, 23-25, 15-9 win over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe that secured the state playoffs berth.


 

In the third place match, Adairsville came up short against Ringgold in a 26-24, 26-24 final.


 

Adairsville (24-15-1) will face the Area-3A champion Oconee County (39-6) on the road in the first round of the state tournament.
