Elite Stone Supply, in conjunction with WBHF and Bartow Sports Zone, presents the ELITE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK. Each week, all five local schools are provided opportunity to name an Elite Athlete of the Week and present the information on their honoree through Bartow Sports Zone and on 100.3FM and AM1450, WBHF in Cartersville.
Recipients for the week ending October 29, 2016:
Xavior Coaxum -- Cartersville High School
Whitney Harris -- Excel Christian Academy
Ant Lester -- Woodland High School
Demarco Moore -- Cass High School
Roger Redd -- Adairsville High School
Xavior Coaxum is the Cartersville High School Elite Athlete of the Week.
Coaxum is a three-year starter on the Purple Hurricanes’ defense and is the son of David Coaxum and Liswandra Davis. The senior strong safety has been recognized as the Canes’ Defensive Back of the Week 17 time during his career.
He led all Cartersville defensive backs in tackles during the 2015, undefeated state championship season and he leads them again this season by a wide margin.
The Elite Athlete of the Week for Excel Christian Academy is Whitney Harris.
The daughter of Eric Harris and the granddaughter of Tommy and Patsy Harris, Whitney is a junior who has attended Excel since the fourth grade.
A multi-sport athlete, Harris is a three-year starter at third base and shortstop for the Lady Eagles’ softball team. She is a three-year starter at guard on the basketball team and is on the varsity tennis team in the spring.
Coach Adcock and Coach Baker nominated Whitney because of her outstanding work ethic, the positive attitude she exhibits every day, and the leadership qualities she brings to any endeavor undertaken.
Harris is an excellent student and has been an honor roll student throughout her high school career. Her teachers praise her for her work ethic and high level performance in the classroom.
She has many leadership roles at Excel and is a positive influence in the school. She is the Junior Class Vice President, an officer with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is on the Principal’s Advisory Committee.
Harris attends Grace First Baptist Church and is an active participant in youth ministries. She also gives back to the community as a participant in Splash Bartow for the past three years.
Her future plans include attending college and majoring in cosmetology.
Ant Lester is the Elite Athlete of the Week representing Woodland High School.
Lester is a sophomore running back and outside linebacker for the Wildcats’ football team.
Lester was credited with setting the tone for the Wildcats’ offense last week with his tough, physical running style and he continues to be part of Woodland’s recent success in the running game.
He finished the game at Kell with 58 rushing yards and three tackles on defense.
The Cass High School Elite Athlete of the Week is Demarco Moore.
Moore is a junior defensive back that has worked his way into a starting role at corner back for the Colonels. He has continued to develop and grow in his knowledge and understanding of the secondary and has a bright future. Moore’s physical play in last week’s game at Villa Rica jumped off the game film. He has one interception this season and is always active and around the football.
He is the son of Garland Moore and Shederricka Brazil.
The Elite Athlete of the Week for Adairsville High School is Roger Redd.
The son of Roger and Sonja Redd, the senior quarterback is in his second season as the signal caller for the Tigers’ offense.
He was 13-of-24 for 276 yards and four touchdowns last week in Adairsville’s 42-10 victory over Haralson County. He also rushed for a four-yard touchdown as the Tigers secured a spot in the region playoffs this week.
Redd also excels in the classroom where he maintains a 3.95 grade point average.
