The Bartow County Parks and Recreation Department 10-and-under all star football team defeated Dalton Tuesday night at James Brown Park in Dalton, 30-8, to improve to 2-0 in Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) District 5 action.
With the victory, Bartow secured a berth in the GRPA Class A State Tournament that will begin December 3 in Calhoun. Bartow defeated Cartersville 32-8 last Saturday to open District 5 play. Dalton scored on a safety in the first quarter and added a 15-yard touchdown run in the second period to go ahead 8-0 Tuesday night, but Bartow tied the game before halftime on a 40-yard run by Devin Henderson and a Kendrick Price two-point conversion.
The second half was dominated by Bartow.
Adrian Harris, Jr. scored on a 48-yard run in the third quarter and Price added the two-point PAT that put Bartow ahead 16-8. Henderson then added a 15-yard scoring run, followed by another Price PAT to give Bartow a 24-8 lead.
Jamarion Pullum sealed the victory by picking off a Dalton pass that he returned 50 yards for a touchdown and a 30-8 Bartow decision.
Ethan Brown and Richard Houston led the Bartow defense with five tackles each.
Bartow returns to action Thursday night at Hamilton Crossing Park and will face the Rome all-stars at 7:15pm. Rome is 2-0 in District 5 play with win over Dalton (22-8) and Cartersville (30-14).
Cartersville (0-2) will host Dalton (0-2) Thursday night at Dellinger Park at 7:15am.
The winner of the Bartow/Rome game Thursday night will advance to the GRPA District 5 championship game Saturday at noon against Calhoun at Calhoun High School.
In other GRPA action Tuesday, the 8-and-under Bartow all-stars were shutout by Dalton, 19-0.
The Bartow offense was led by Malachi Harris and Joshua Love.
