Local athletes continued to make important contributions with their respective collegiate programs this past week in swimming, golf, soccer, volleyball and cross country.

ELISE HART — U.S. Air Force Academy (Sr., Spring-Free/Fly/Back, Cartersville HS). . . finished first in the 50 yard freestyle (24.21), first in the 100 yard butterfly, and swam the butterfly leg for the first place 200 yard medley relay team (1:45.12) as the Falcons won a three-way meet with Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Mesa University Saturday at the USAF Academy Natatorium. Air Force swims at Wyoming next Saturday.
HANNAH MAE DEEMS — Mercer University (Sr., Taylorsville, GA, Darlington HS). . . shot an opening round 77 Sunday morning and is tied for 33rd individually (second lowest score on her team) as Mercer stands eighth of 17 teams after one round at the 54-hole Palmetto Intercollegiate at Turtle Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island, SC. The tournament continues Monday and Tuesday with Ole Miss leading Old Dominion, Marshall, and Kennesaw State each within 10 shots.
MADISON BENNETT — North Greenville University (Soph., Def., Woodland HS). . . saw 21 minutes of action in a 1-1 tie at Milligan College (TN) last Wednesday. She also played 15 minutes this past Saturday in a 2-1 home win over Barton College. NGU (7-5-4, 5-3-1 Conference Carolinas) finishes regular season play next Tuesday at Lees-McRae College and Saturday at home against Converse College.
KATELYNN HARBEKE — Life University (Jr., MF, Cass HS). . . played 75 minutes and had an assist on the Eagles’ only goal last Tuesday in a 7-1 Mid-South Conference loss at home to Lindsey Wilson (KY). She also played all 90 minutes Friday in a 2-1 conference loss at Georgetown College (KY). Life (4-10, 1-5) concludes regular season play Wednesday at home vs. Cumberland University (TN).
KATIE LAWHORN — Life University (Fr., MF, Adairsville HS). . . played 26 minutes in the Eagles’ 7-1 home loss to Lindsey Wilson last Tuesday. Life (4-10, 1-5) concludes regular season play Wednesday at home vs. Cumberland University (TN).
CODY WEST — Duquesne University (R-Sr., Def., Cass HS). . . 102 minutes 1-0 home overtime loss to St. Bonaventure last Wednesday and all 90 minutes of a 1-0 road loss Saturday in Washington, D.C. to George Washington University. The Dukes (3-11-1, 1-5-0 Atlantic 10 Conference) host conference foe Dayton next Saturday night.
KATIE O’CONNOR — Western Carolina University (Sr., MB, Cartersville HS). . . had four kills, a defensive dig, and four blocks in a three-set home Southern Conference loss last Friday to Chattanooga. WCU hosts East Tennessee State Sunday…. WCU (were 7-15, 2-7) plays at Mercer this Friday night and at Samford Saturday night.
CASEY BOLAN — Reinhardt University (Fr., Woodland HS). . . finished 134th (22:28) of 222 runners this past Saturday as the Eagles finished seventh of 24 teams at the 5K USC-Beaufort Sand Shark Invitational. Reinhardt runs next at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship meet they will host in Canton on November 4.
JAISON MORNING — Valdosta State University (Jr., Cass HS). . . finished 54th (26:58) of 103 runners this past Saturday and was second fastest on his team as the Blazers finished 11th of 13 teams at the 8K Gulf South Conference Championship Meet in Danville, AL.
