Cass out hit visiting Wheeler 11-10 and led by a 4-3 score going to the seventh inning Friday night, but dropped the non-region game 6-4 when the Wildcats scored three times in their final offensive frame.
The Colonels took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third on three hits and an error, but Wheeler answered with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Cass went back ahead 4-3 in the fourth when Gavin Young singled and eventually came around to score on a pair of stolen bases and a wild pitch.
The pitching loss also fell to Young (3 IP, 3R, 1ER, 3H, 0BB, 2K) who entered in the fourth inning in relief of starter Evan Hinton (3.1 IP, 3ER, 7H, 4BB, 8K). Steven Spell (0.2 IP, 0R, 0BB, 0H) retired the final two outs for the Colonels.
Bryson Markley had a three-hit game for Cass.Young and Spell had two hits each as did Nathan Smith. Clay Means had one hit and one RBI. Hinton drove in a run with a double.
Cass also stole seven bases in the game. Young swiped three. Markley, Spell, Ajami Harmon, and Matt Shook stole one each.
Wheeler improved to 3-2 on the year.
Cass (2-2) plays a doubleheader Saturday at Pepperell starting at 1 p.m.
