Soccer roundup: Canes win region title, Lady Tigers clinch state berth

The Cartersville boys soccer team won the Region 5-AAAA championship Thursday evening with a 5-1 victory over visiting LaGrange at Weinman Stadium.

LaGrange scored first, but failed to get anything else past Canes keeper Ethan Eckert as Cartersville scored five unanswered goals.

The Canes went unbeaten in region play and will enter the Class AAAA state tournament next week as a No. 1 seed.

Jair Ramos, Pedro Ghanem (two goals, two assists), and Leo Sanchez scored for Cartersville Grant Farmer added a pair of assists.

The Lady Canes dropped a 1-0 decision to LaGrange Thursday night at Weinman Stadium and due to region tie-breakers will fall to a 3-seed in next week’s state playoffs.

The Lady Tigers clinched the No. 3 seed from Region 6-AAA for next week’s state playoffs with a 2-1 victory over Calhoun at Adairsville.
