Thursday's volleyball action: Lady Canes win two, Woodland splits matches


Cartersville volleyball made it a two match sweep over visiting Coosa and Adairsville Thursday night at the Storm Center.

The Lady Canes defeated Coosa in three sets before taking a straight set win over the Lady Tigers.

Cartersville dropped their opening set with Coosa 25-22, but came back to win the next two sets 25-20 and 17-15.

Nedu Evans (photo) had 18 kills, four aces, and eight digs for the Hurricanes. Grace Hunter totaled 34 assists across the three sets and Anna Mathis added 11 digs against the Eagles.

Cartersville had a much easier time against Adairsville winning 25-11 and 25-8.

Evans contributed nine kills and four service aces for the Canes. Hunter had 22 assists and six aces. Mathis added eight digs.

“We managed to squeak by in the first match,” said Lady Canes’ coach Dutch Cothran. Coosa fought hard and pushed us. We’re learning and growing and trying to have fun as we progress.”

Adairsville is off until September 4 when the Lady Tigers travel to Coosa to face the Eagles and Lafayette.

Cartersville travels to Bremen August 28 to face Bremen and Villa Rica.

WOODLAND EARNS SPLIT IN CHATSWORTH

Woodland volleyball split a pair of matches Thursday night with Murray County and Southeast Whitfield in Chatsworth.

The Lady Cats beat Murray County 25-19 and 25-18 behind seven digs and 12 assists from Macey Vaughn. Grace Webb added four kills and th

ree blocks, while Noelle Dickey had six kills, eight digs, and a pair of assists.

Against Southeast, the Lady Cats lost 25-19 and 25-18.

Sydney Molinaro contributed four kills, two digs, and a block. Vaughn had three kills, three digs, and seven assists.

Woodland hosts Hiram and Rockmart next Tuesday in a 5 p.m. start.

CASS EDGED TWICE

Cass volleyball was swept in a pair of matches Thursday at East Paulding.

The Lady Colonels went three sets with the hosts after winning the middle set. East Paulding won the first and last sets, 25-17 and 25-18.

In another tightly contested match against North Paulding, Cass lost to the Wolfpack 26-24 and 25-17.

Cass hosts Pepperell and Armuchee in non-region matches Tuesday at 5 p.m.
