Woodland softball won twice Friday night to extend their current win streak to four games as they hosted Coffee and Armuchee as part of the Allatoona Buccaneer Bash.
The Lady Cats edged Coffee 7-6 in nine innings and overpowered Armuchee 12-0.
Three Woodland pitchers contributed from the circle in the extra inning win. Lainey Baker (3 IP, 0R, 1H, 3BB, 2K) picked up the win in relief of starter Sarah Baynard (5.2 IP, 5R, 0ER, 6H, 3BB, 2K) and Hope Schultz (0.1 IP, 1BB).
Skylar Chappell, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI against Coffee, drove in the game-winning run in the ninth inning with a double.
Caroline Higdon had two hits including a double and one RBI. Morgan Bailey, Ansley Evans, and Kendyl Hardin (double) added one hit each.
Against Armuchee, the Lady Cats pounded out 15 hits in support of Madi Bentley’s two-hit shutout. The Woodland pitcher walked one and fanned four in the four-inning victory.
Hardin homered and doubled for five RBI to pace the Lady Cats’ attack. Morgan Bailey and Bella Carnes both contributed three hits and one RBI. Ansley Evans had two hits including a double and Chappell also finished with two hits. Higdon, Alyssa Motes, and Morgan Cooper added one hit and one RBI apiece.
Woodland (5-4) hosts Brunswick and South Paulding Saturday as the tournament continues.
CASS DROPS PAIR ON OPENING NIGHT OF BUC BASH
Cass softball dropped a pair of games Friday night at Hamilton Crossing Park playing in the Allatoona Buccaneer Bash.
The Lady Colonels lost 6-3 to Pickens and 13-5 to Allatoona, falling to 1-5 on the season.
Cass led Pickens 3-2 going into the fourth inning before the Dragons scored four times to take control.
In the Colonels’ loss to Allatoona, the Lady Bucs broke open a 2-1 game in the fourth inning with six runs and followed up with five more in the fifth to lead 13-1. Cass scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, but that would be as close as they would get.
Haley Smith had a pair of doubles in the Colonels’ loss to Pickens. Eryn Lee also had two hits including a double and one RBI. Kailia Carson drove in two runs and had one hit. Kylie Hembree had the other Cass base hit.
Kelly Young, Macenzie Dougharty, Haley Smith, Hembree (3-RBI triple), Haley Owens (RBI), Maggie Collum, Keturah Redding had one hit each against Allatoona.
LADY CANES BLANKED BY PICKENS
Cartersville softball was shutout for the second straight night Friday in a 10-0 loss to Pickens at Hamilton Crossing Park as part of the Allatoona Buccaneer Bash.
Presley Edwards, Lauren McElhaney, and Madison Lingerfelt had the only base hits for the Lady Canes.
Cartersville (5-4) will play Sonoraville and Alexander Saturday afternoon as their portion of the Buc Bash continues at Kennesaw Mountain High School.
