The Georgia Highlands College softball team stayed hot this past weekend by winning their fifth straight and eighth game of their last nine starts with a Sunday doubleheader sweep of East Georgia State Community College at Stars Field in Cassville.
The Chargers won Sunday’s opener 6-2 and took the second game 8-3.
Georgia Highlands has now won nine of 12 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association conference games after a 2-4 start in league play. Kara Kight went 2-for-3 at the plate and tossed a complete-game in the pitching circle in the Chargers’ Game 1 win Sunday. She also earned a save in the second game with three scoreless innings of work. Kight did not walk a batter across ten innings Sunday and fanned two in the appearances as she improved to 12-5 on the year with four saves. Haley Robinson (4 IP, 3ER, 8H, 1BB, 2K) was the Game 2 pitching winner.
In addition to Kight’s performance in the first game, Mya Adams was 2-for-3 including a double and two RBI. Lexi Palazzo also had a 2-for-3 game with a pair of RBI.
In the second game, Kayla Laukka was a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI, and a stolen base. Deyonce Lewis, Alexis Davis, and Palazzo also contributed two hits apiece.
Georgia Highlands (20-14, 11-7) will host conference leader Georgia Military Wednesday in a doubleheader before traveling to Barnesville for a conference doubleheader at Gordon College Saturday.
