- Christian Heritage tops Excel, 5-2
The Excel Lady Eagles fastpitch team suffered a 5-2 home loss to Christian Heritage Thursday night, but still remain in contention for a Class A Private state playoff berth. The loss comes on the heals of a pair of wins earlier in the week over Fellowship Christian and King’s Ridge. Christian Heritage improved to 22-2 on the season with the victory. “They scored four runs in the top of the first,” said Excel coach Eric Harris, “but then we settled down and really played them a great game. “We had some runners on base and had some chances to score. We just didn’t get the big hit at the right time. They’ve got a good club,” Harris concluded. ECA has one regular season game remaining. They play North Cobb Christian at home Friday at 3:45. Following Friday’s contest, the Lady Eagles will await their fate based on the GHSA power ratings system and the determination of region champions in the other Class A regions. Class A private schools winning their own region automatically qualify for the state tournament. Any remaining slots are filled by the highest rated teams in the power ratings. There are eight regions and only 16 teams make the Class A Private playoff bracket. The Lady Eagles were rated 13th among private Class A schools in the most recent rankings.
- Adairsville rally falls short, but Lady Tigers advance to state
The Adairsville Lady Tigers lost 7-6 Wednesday night to Sonoraville at the Region 6-AAA tournament, but will advance to the Class AAA state tournament as the region's fourth seed as a result of Tuesday's 6-3 win over Murray County. The remainder of the seeding for the region is yet to be determined through tournament play. Ringgold, Calhoun, and Sonoraville remain alive in the double-elimination event heading into Thursday's games. Adairsville trailed Sonoraville 6-3 after six innings and rallied to tie Wednesday night's game 6-6 in the seventh, but the Lady Phoenix pushed across the deciding run in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Tigers will be on the road for their first round playoff best-of-three series. They will face the No. 1 seed from Region 7-AAA. The GHSA bracket has the opening round scheduled for a doubleheader on Wednesday, October 14 and a potential rubber game (if needed) on Thursday, October 15.
