Bartow County Recreation Department 10U football results for Tuesday, September 29 BARTOW COLTS 26 BARTOW BEARS 0 The Bartow Colts stellar defense led the way in a convincing 26-0 win over the Bartow Bears in BCRD 10-and-under football action Tuesday night at Hamilton Crossing Park. The Colts intercepted three Bears' passes and returned them for touchdowns in the shutout victory. Caleb Cooley had one of the interceptions and scored on a 40-yard return. He also added a 65-yard scoring scamper and a PAT run on the Colts' final score of the night. Devin Henderson scored twice on interception returns -- one from 50 yards and another of 45 yards. Richard Houston added a PAT run to round out the Colts' scoring. The game between the Bartow Raiders and Bartow Falcons was cancelled due to lightning and will be rescheduled. - Lady Wildcats open Region 7AAAAA tourney Thursday
Woodland softball opens play in the Region 7-AAAAA tournament Thursday when they face Kell at Forsyth Central High School at 7pm. The Lady Cats enter the region tournament as the No. 4 seed from sub-region A. Kell is the No. 3 seed from sub-region B. Region 7AAAAA consists of 14 schools. Only the top five teams from each sub-region qualified for the region championship tournament. The top four finishers will represent the region in the Class AAAAA state playoffs. The winner of Thursday’s Woodland/Kell game will advance in the winners’ bracket to play Saturday against the winner of Thursday night’s game between North Springs and Creekview. The Saturday game will be at Cambridge High School. The loser of Thursday’s Woodland/Kell game will slip to the losers’ bracket of the double-elimination tournament to play the loser of North Springs/Creekview, also on Saturday but at River Ridge. The tournament continues through Friday, October 9. The top seeds are Cambridge and River Ridge. Cambridge, the winner of sub-region B, is currently the top-ranked team in Class AAAAA. River Ridge was the regular season champion of sub-region A. Sprayberry, Dalton, Sequoyah and Forsyth Central round out the field in the ten team region tournament.

The Adairsville Lady Tigers softball team took an early lead, but the visiting Colts of Coahulla Creek scored seven runs over the final three innings to escape with a 9-8 win Tuesday night. Adairsville rallied in the bottom of the seventh for a pair of runs, but came up just short. - Lady Canes volleyball splits matches with Pickens, Southeast Whitfield
Cartersville Lady Canes volleyball defeated Pickens in three sets Tuesday night, but fell to Southeast Whitfield in straight sets. The win over Pickens was 19-25, 25-16, 25-19. The loss to Southeast Whitfield was 28-26, 25-16. Final scores from the opening round of the 2015 Bartow - Gordon Middle School Athletic Association (BGMSAA) softball championship tournament. Each of the top seeds from the regular season won their opening round games to advance to the league semifinals. FIRST ROUND SCORES Calhoun 6, South Central 0 (forfeit) Red Bud 8, Cass 4 Woodland 10, Ashworth 0 Adairsville 5, Cartersville 0 Games continue Wednesday afternoon with the league semifinals at Calhoun High School scheduled for 4:30pm and 6pm. The championship game in the single elimination tournament is Thursday afternoon at 4:30 at Calhoun High School.

CROSS COUNTRY Rhodes College — Spencer Fields (Fr., Kingston, GA; Darlington) …ran ninth overall and second on his team behind senior Alex Noel September 26 at Shelby Farms as the Lynx hosted the Rhodes College XC Invitational. Rhodes finished behind Division I Arkansas State in the event that included 29 teams from Division I, II, and III. Next: Greater Louisville Classic Oct. 3 in Louisville, KY. Reinhardt Univeristy — Roger Herrerra (Jr., Cartersville HS) ran 29:25 and third on his Reinhardt University team at the University of North Georgia Invitational Sept. 19. The Eagles finished 10th of 20 teams. Next: SCAD Atlanta Invitational, Oct. 2 in Newnan. Young Harris College — Savannah Hardin (Fr., Cass HS) … ran 112th overall (27.25.01) as the Mountain Lions ran 8th of 20 teams at the Wingate (NC) Bulldog Stampede 6K on Saturday, September 26. - Woodland Middle leads the way at Wingfoot XC Classic
Woodland Middle School’s girls and boys cross country teams finished first among competiting middle school teams Saturday at the Wingfoot Cross Country Classic at Sam Smith Park in Cartersville. The two-mile middle school division race included 338 girls and 410 boys individual runners. Several teams representing their respective middle schools competed along with middle school running clubs and unattached middle school runners. A pair of middle school running clubs - Great Strides and Alpha Crush Running Club - placed ahead of WMS girls, but the middle school Lady Wildcats were low scorers among at least thirteen school teams. The Woodland Middle boys team finished just ahead of Cartersville Middle School and Lovett. There were 18 middle school teams represented. Bartow County Recreation Department and Cartersville Parks & Recreation Department Youth Football 8U football results for Monday, September 28 BEARS 14 STEELERS 7 Isaiah Livsey and Talan Nix had touchdown runs of 15 yards and 5 yards, respectively to lead the Bears to a win. Nix also completed a 2-point conversion pass to Logan Shrewsbury. Nicolas Wright scored on an 11-yard run for the Steelers and Jeremiah Deroche added the PAT run. RAIDERS 38 JETS 0 Six different players scored for the Raiders in a 38-0 victory over the Jets. Aiden Caylor scored on an 80-yard scamper and caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Xavior Darby. Darby added a 9-yard scoring run. Gavin Johnson, Levi Epelbaum, and Grayson Dysart had touchdown runs of 10-, 39-, and 20-yards. Aiden Ritchie rounded out the scoring with a PAT run. Furman improved to 2-2. Furman totaled 322 yards of total offense and rushed for 125. UNC Charlotte — T.L. Ford (So., Cartersville HS) started at WR, was targeted three times, and caught 1 pass for 7 yards in the 49ers 17-7 loss to Florida Atlantic. The 49ers are now 2-2 on the year. UNC Charlotte — Mark Quattlebaum (R-Fr., Cartersville HS) had one punt return for 7 yards in a loss to Florida Atlantic. The Citadel — Austin Harrell (R-Jr., Adairsville HS) .. Defensive lineman had 2 tackles vs. Charleston Southern Sep 26 and 3 tackles vs. Georgia Southern Sep 19. Now 2 solo and 5 assists for the season. Vic Beasley says he "grades himself tough" and is striving to learn the intricacies of playing defensive end in the NFL. The former Adairsville Tiger and Clemson All-American and the rest of the Atlanta Falcons will take on the Dallas Cowboys Sunday in Dallas. Beasely, Jr. is off to an impactful start for Atlanta in his rookie season and coach Dan Quinn makes note of that work in Vaughn McClure's article for ESPN.com.
