Christian Heritage tops Excel, 5-2

The Excel Lady Eagles fastpitch team suffered a 5-2 home loss to Christian Heritage Thursday night, but still remain in contention for a Class A Private state playoff berth.

The loss comes on the heals of a pair of wins earlier in the week over Fellowship Christian and King’s Ridge.

Christian Heritage improved to 22-2 on the season with the victory.

“They scored four runs in the top of the first,” said Excel coach Eric Harris, “but then we settled down and really played them a great game.

“We had some runners on base and had some chances to score. We just didn’t get the big hit at the right time. They’ve got a good club,” Harris concluded.

ECA has one regular season game remaining. They play North Cobb Christian at home Friday at 3:45.

Following Friday’s contest, the Lady Eagles will await their fate based on the GHSA power ratings system and the determination of region champions in the other Class A regions. Class A private schools winning their own region automatically qualify for the state tournament. Any remaining slots are filled by the highest rated teams in the power ratings. There are eight regions and only 16 teams make the Class A Private playoff bracket.

The Lady Eagles were rated 13th among private Class A schools in the most recent rankings.
