Canes, Colonels win Saturday


The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes improved to 5-1 in Region 5AAAA with a one-sided win at Central-Carrollton Saturday and the Cass Colonels picked up a non-region victory at Armuchee.


Woodland lost in overtime for the third time in the Wildcats' last four games and the Excel Christian Academy boys continue to seek their first win of the season.

 

No. 10 CARTERSVILLE BOYS 77, CENTRAL-CARROLLTON 40


Jaylon Pugh scored 24 points, including 9-for-9 at the charity stripe and a thunder dunk in the third quarter, to lead the Canes to a 37-point blowout win at Region 5AAAA Central-Carrollton Saturday.


T.J. Horton contributed 17 points, while Trase Fezzia and JKobe Orr each added 11 for the Hurricanes. Isaac Gridley grabbed 10 boards.


Cartersville led 21-10 after one period and 43-26 at halftime on their way to a 63-30 advantage through three quarters.


Central remained winless in seven Region 5AAAA games and fell to 4-17 overall.


Cartersville (14-3, 5-1) travels to LaGrange Tuesday and hosts Sandy Creek Friday with Chapel Hill coming to the Storm Center Saturday.





CASS BOYS 51, ARMUCHEE 41


Cass led 18-6 after one quarter and 30-13 at halftime on their way to an eventual 10-point, non-region win at Armuchee Saturday.


Carter Hedden scored ten and Mark Chester nine to help lead the Colonels. Ian Whittington chipped in with seven points. Jake Collum and Jacquez Milles each added four.


Armuchee dropped to 8-13 on the year following the loss.


Cass (14-6, 8-3) hosts Region 7AAAAA foe Hiram on Tuesday.





SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD BOYS 60, WOODLAND 59 — Overtime


For the third time in their last four games, the Woodland boys basketball team suffered an overtime defeat.


This time at Southeast Whitfield in Dalton in a non-region contest.


Woodland squandered an eight point halftime lead as the Raiders hit a buzzer-beater at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime tied at 51-all.


Justice Carter led the Wildcats with 15 points. Hunter Johnson scored 12 and Jaylen Ballard 10 for Woodland.


The Wildcats (1-15, 0-10) host Rome Tuesday and Hiram Wednesday before heading to county rival Cass Friday night.





No. 2 NORTH COBB CHRISTIAN 75, EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 15


Second ranked North Cobb Christian, led by Caleb Crumbly’s 17 points and Nate Perrin’s 13, powered past Excel Christian Academy Saturday.


Excel (0-13, 0-8) was led by Taylor McDaniel with nine points.


North Cobb Christian improved to 18-3 overall and remained unbeaten in Region 6A through ten region games.


Excel plays at Bowdon Tuesday, at Darlington Thursday, and hosts Gordon Lee on Friday.
