GHC softball sweeps Gordon College, breaks single-season wins mark


The Georgia Highlands College softball team swept a doubleheader at Gordon State College Saturday, winning 15-1 and 16-3.


Every GHC starter recorded at least one hit in the doubleheader.


Brianna Fickes, Chargers’ first baseman (in photo), was a perfect 5-for-5 on the day with three home runs, three walks, and seven RBIs. Shay Wooten and Mackenzy McFarland also hit home runs.


Rebecca Meade recorded two wins in the pitching circle. She tossed 8 and 1/3 of the ten innings played. She allowed a pair of runs on only five hits, but only one was earned. Meade fanned six batters.


Micayla McCoy pitched and inning and two-thirds. She yielded a pair of earned runs on two hits.


The Chargers (29-8, 11-5 GCAA) play a home doubleheader Tuesday with Georgia Military College beginning at 3pm and will play the Brewton-Parker College JV on Saturday.


Each win at this point for Georgia Highlands establishes a new single-season win mark. The previous school record for wins in a season was 27.
