Bartow Little League wins 8-10-year-old B division; Cartersville 8-10-year olds edged in five-game s


Bartow County Little League 8-10-year-old B-Team won the Georgia District 1 Little League championship this past Wednesday by completing a two-game sweep of Rockmart Little League in their best-of-three series.


BCLL won the first game 15-0 Tuesday night and secured the series Wednesday night with a 7-1 decision.


Conner Lujan tossed a four-inning complete-game shutout Tuesday and went 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run, triple, and three RBIs.


In Wednesday’s series clincher, Kaiden Pirkle did not allow a run, struck out ten, and scattered only four hits in a five and one-third innings pitching performance for Bartow. Malachi Linley closed out the sixth inning for the locals.


Lujan went 5-for-6 in the series with a homer, two triples, three stolen bases, and three RBIs to lead Bartow’s offense. Joshua McBroom was also 5-for-6 with a double and one RBI. Robert Mitchell added a 4-for-5 performance at the plate with a stolen base and one RBI.


Righley Worthington went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for Bartow. Hunter Lovett finished the series 4-for-6 with a double and two RBIs. Pirkle was 3-for-7 including a double, two RBIs, and a stolen base while Aiden Ritchie went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.


Isaiah Livsey was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the series. Linley was 2-for-5 and Thomas Johnson finished 1-for-5 with a double and one RBI. Jake Clowers reached on a walk in Wednesday’s finale and scored a run.


 

Cartersville Little League 8-10-year-old A-Team lost its best-of-five series for the Georgia Little League District 1 championship with Rockmart three games to two.


Following a narrow 2-1 loss in the opening game, Cartersville won the second and third games of the series by lopsided scores, including a 13-4 victory last Tuesday.


Rockmart rallied to win the final two games of the series 18-5 and 8-4 to win the District 1 title Friday night.


Rockmart 8-10-year-old A advances to the Georgia 8-10-year-old state tournament to be hosted by Chatham County Little League in Savannah starting Saturday, July 8.
