Saturday hoops roundup: Lady Canes top Jackets to even season mark


CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 51, CALHOUN 43


The Cartersville Lady Canes evened their season mark Saturday afternoon with a 51-43 win over Calhoun at the Storm Center.


The visiting Yellow Jackets led 15-9 after one period and 23-19 at halftime, but Cartersville outscored Calhoun 14-7 in the third quarter to take a 33-30 lead into the final eight minutes.


Erin Davis led Calhoun (0-1) with 14 points and Anna George added eight for the Jackets.


Addie Smith led the Lady Canes with 17 points followed by Amaya Davis with 10. Kalli Scheff posted eight points. London Shaw six, Cio Seigler five, Aliyah Sellars three, and De”Asia Jefferson scored two points.


Cartersville (2-2) plays next on December 15 and 16 with a home game against Paulding County and a road game at Calhoun.





VILLA RICA GIRLS 70, CASS 62


The visiting 6th-ranked Villa Rica Lady Wildcats edged Cass Saturday afternoon 70-62.


Villa Rica ( ) led 18-7 after one quarter but the Lady Colonels narrowed the margin to 27-23 at the intermission.


Cass outscored the Wildcats in the third quarter and led midway through the fourth period before Villa Rica surged late for an eight point win.


Cass had three players reach double figures. Lyric Curtis led with 18 points, followed by Kyla Michienzi and Payton Stoddard with 15 and 13 points, respectively.


Aaliyah Curtis tossed in seven points. Alexis Ware contributed five. Amber Brittian and Chanel Clemmons added two points each.


Cass (1-1, 0-1 Region 7-AAAAA) hosts Paulding County Tuesday and travels to East Paulding Friday. Both region games are scheduled for 6 p.m.





ROCKMART GIRLS 56, ADAIRSVILLE 28



The Adairsville girls basketball hung tough through the first period Saturday, but a 26-3 second period ignited visiting Rockmart to a 59-28 non-region decision.


Kenyard Berry scored a game-high 28 points to lead Rockmart. Molly Little added 11 points.


The visiting Lady Yellow Jackets improved to 2-1 on the season.


Josie Summerville scored 11 points — all in the first half — to lead Adairsville in the scoring column. Havyn Isaac scored five points and Nakiyah Washington four for the Lady Tigers.


Adairsville (2-4) plays at North Murray Tuesday night at 6 p.m.




ROCKMART BOYS 61, ADAIRSVILLE 56


Rockmart outscored Adairsville 19-11 in the third quarter to take a 45-38 lead and held on for a 61-56 road win Saturday evening.


Adairsville and Rockmart were tied 17-17 after one quarter and the host Tigers led 27-26 at the intermission.


Juke Boozer and Joqan Burge led the visiting Yellow Jackets with 14 points apiece. Robert Harris scored 12 points for Rockmart.


Hunter Hice led Adairsville with 20 points. Ethan Belcher totaled 11 points and Cody Henderson added eight for the Tigers.


Rockmart improved to 3-0 with their win.


Adairsville (1-5) plays at North Murray Tuesday night and hosts Murray County on Friday.




VILLA RICA BOYS 56, CASS 52


Ashton Burley scored 20 points while Markeldrick Powell and Justice Hayes chipped in nine points each, but the Colonels fell to an unbeaten Villa Rica team Saturday evening at Cass, 56-52.


The visiting Wildcats improved to 3-0 on the season and are now 2-0 in region play.


Cass (2-2, 0-1 Region 7-AAAAA) hosts Paulding County Tuesday and travels to East Paulding next Friday for region games.
