Lady Cats, Wildcats fall to visiting Rome


The Woodland girls and boys basketball teams fell to visiting Rome Wednesday night in Region 7-AAAAA action.


 

ROME GIRLS 59, WOODLAND 31


Rome led 9-7 after one period, 28-15 at halftime, and 47-22 through three quarters in a 59-31 win Wednesday night at Woodland.


Tanah Gibson led Rome with 14 points. Amberly Brown added 11 for the Lady Wolves (11-2, 4-1).


Carli Clymer and Madgie Robinson finished with eight points each for for Lady Cats. Whitney Harris contributed seven, Morgan Cooper five, Lauren Morris two, and Nickiah Metcalf scored one point.


Woodland (3-10, 1-7) hosts Carrollton Saturday at 3 p.m. in another Region 7-AAAAA contest.




ROME BOYS 61, WOODLAND 55


The Woodland boys trailed early, but battled their way back in the second half before dropping a six-point decision at home Wednesday night to Rome, 61-55.


Rome led 20-16 after one quarter and 36-28 at the intermission before Woodland rallied to tie the game at 44 after three quarters.


The visiting Wolves outscored the Wildcats 17-11 over the final eight minutes for the Region 7-AAAAA win.


Caleb Byrd led Rome with 15 points and KJ Brown scored 14. Xavier Brown added eight of his 11 points for the Wolves in the fourth quarter.


Hunter Johnson led Woodland with 15 points that included four three-pointers. Connor Gallagher followed with 11. Dawson Wilkins scored nine, Justice Carter six, Peyton Roberts and Jaylen Ballard five each, and DJ Robinson added four points.


Rome evened its season mark at 5-5 overall and 2-2 in region play.


Woodland (3-12, 1-7) entertains Carrollton Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
