Soccer roundup: Vance hat trick lifts Lady Canes to 10th win


On a busy night for local soccer teams, Micah Vance scored a hat trick of goals for the Lady Canes as Cartersville defeated visiting Southeast Whitfield, 5-1.

 

VANCE HAT TRICK HIGHLIGHTS LADY CANES WIN The Lady Canes led 2-0 at halftime and rolled to a 5-1 non-region victory over visiting Southeast Whitfield Tuesday night in Cartersville’s final regular season home game. Micah Vance scored a hat trick of goals for Cartersville including the first two in the 26th and 28th minutes of the contest. Kelly Betancourt assisted on the initial goal.


Abbey Craig got the Lady Canes started in the second half with an unassisted goal in the 44th minute. Then Vance completed her hat trick off an assist from Chloe Williams in the 52nd minute. Devondria Johnson added the final Cartersville goal unassisted in the 60th minute. Cartersville (10-4-1) closes out the regular season slate Thursday at Allatoona in a tune-up for their state playoff opener Thursday, April 25 at Weinman Stadium. The Lady Canes will host Oconee County in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs with a 6 p.m. kickoff.


HURRICANES FALL TO RAIDERS, 3-1 The Hurricanes lost their final home regular season contest of the season to Southeast Whitfield Tuesday night, 3-1. The Canes’ goal came early in the match off the foot of Brady Craig. Ricardo Torres assisted. Cartersville (7-6) wraps up the regular season schedule Thursday at Allatoona and will open the Class AAAA state playoffs next week at home against Madison County.





COLONELS BATTLE TO CONSECUTIVE DRAWS The Cass boys soccer team has played to back-to-back draws — tying Heritage-Catoosa Tuesday night at home 0-0 on the heels of a 2-2 tie with North Springs at Cochran Stadium last Friday night. Cass (3-10-3) wraps up the 2019 campaign at Coahulla Creek Thursday evening at 7 p.m.






LATE GOALS SPOIL LADY COLONELS SENIOR NIGHT


Back to back goals by the visiting Lady Generals in the 70th and 71st minutes lifted visiting Heritage-Catoosa to a 2-1 win over Cass Tuesday night at Cochran Stadium. The Lady Colonels led for better than an hour in the contest after Jaden Musacchio found the back of the net in the second minute off a corner from Maddie Shook. The loss, as the Lady Colonels celebrated the careers of nine seniors in their final home game, dropped Cass to 7-9-1 on the season.


Cass concludes the 2019 season with another non-region game at Coahulla Creek Thursday at 5:30 p.m.





LADY TIGERS FALL IN OVERTIME


The Adairsville girls lost their first Region 6-AAA game this season Tuesday night in a 5-4 overtime loss to visiting Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.


The Lady Tigers took an early 2-0 lead and led 4-2 at the intermission, but the visiting Warriors scored twice in the second half to send the game to overtime and took their only lead of the game in the game’s 86th minute.


Cat Wheeler had two goals for Adairsville. Kaylee Jordan scored a goal and assisted one of the Wheeler scores. Megan Hardin scored the other Tigers’ goal on one of two assists in the game by Taylor Rhoades. Adairsville keeper Havyn Isaac finished with ten saves.


The Lady Tigers (10-3-1, 6-1) travel to Calhoun (10-3, 6-1) Thursday with the Region 6-AAA title on the line.




TIGERS LOSE IN OVERTIME The Adairsville boys soccer team took a 3-0 lead over visiting Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe into the intermission Tuesday night, but the Warriors outscored the Tigers 4-1 in the second half to send the game into overtime. LFO then outscored Adairsville 2-1 in the overtime periods to a 6-5 Region 6-AAA victory. Joseph Pacheco and Emanuel Lopez each scored twice for the Tigers and Angel Banda scored the other Adairsville goal. Tigers' Goalkeeper Tyrek Bryant recorded 22 saves in the loss. Adairsville concludes the season Thursday at Calhoun.
