The Cass girls soccer team finished their 2019 season Thursday evening with a 3-2 win at Coahulla Creek sending nine senior playoffs off with a win in their final game.
Senior and University of North Georgia signee, Logan Vermaas scored her 21st goal of the year and added her seventh assist of the season. Maddie Shook scored her third goal of the season and contributed her 17th assist while senior Lupita Pineda added a goal and Leidi Toribio had one assist.
The loss dropped Coahulla Creek’s season record to 12-4-2.
The Lady Colonels finished the season with an 8-9-1 record and placed fifth in Region 7-AAAAA with a 4-4 mark.
COAHULLA CREEK 9, CASS BOYS 1
Coming off back-to-back draws, the Colonels suffered a 9-1 loss in their final game of the season at Coahulla Creek.
The lone Cass goal came off the foot of Magno Moreno off an assist from Alfred Chege.
The host Colts improved to 14-3 with their victory.
The Colonels’ season ends with a 3-11-3 record.
CALHOUN 4, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 0
The Adairsville girls soccer team will head into the Class AAA state tournament as the No. 2 seed from Region 6-AAA following a 4-0 loss Thursday night at Calhoun.
The Yellow Jackets (11-3, 7-1) win the region title with Adairsville advancing as the region runner-up.
The Lady Tigers will host the No. 3-seed from Region 8-AAA, Lumpkin County, Tuesday in Tiger Valley.
CALHOUN 6, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 0
Calhoun scored three times in each half in a 6-0 win over Adairsville.
Adairsville keepers Tyrek Bryant and Noah Grisham combined for 30 saves.
Calhoun improved to 8-7-1. Adairsville finished 2-11.
ALLATOONA 5, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 2
Host Allatoona outscored the Lady Canes 3-0 in the second half for a non-region win Thursday evening, 5-2.
“We played well against a tough opponent,” said Cartersville girls’ coach Chad Murray. “We just made a few mistakes that cost us.”
Cartersville played the Lady Bucs to a 2-2 tie in the first half.
Micah Vance scored an unassisted goal for Cartersville in the game’s 12th minute and Kendyl Anderson added the Hurricanes’ second goal in the 25th minute assisted by Abbey Craig.
Class 6A Allatoona improved to 9-5-1 with their win.
Cartersville (10-5-1) will host Oconee County in the first round of the Class AAAA state playoffs next Thursday (April 25) in a 6 p.m. kickoff at Weinman Stadium.
ALLATOONA 3, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 2
The Canes had a second half lead Thursday night, but a pair of goals by the host Buccaneers in the final twenty minutes lifted Allatoona to a 3-2 non-region win.
Brady Craig had Cartersville’s first half goal to send the Hurricanes to the intermission tied 1-1.
Pedro Ghanem found the back of the net early in the second half to give Cartersville a 2-1 advantage.
The Buccaneers improved to 10-4 on the season.
Cartersville (7-7) opens the Class AAAA state playoffs next Friday at 6 p.m. at home against Madison County (9-6-2).
