Youth football roundup: Bartow Co. Panthers sweep opponents Saturday

The Bartow County Panthers youth program which participates in the Northwest Georgia Youth Football League completed a four-game sweep of games played Saturday at Woodland High School. This update also includes recent games played among local recreation department teams.

 

10U BARTOW COUNTY PANTHERS 32, NORTH GEORGIA COWBOYS 0

Grayson Warmack scored three touchdowns Saturday as the 10U Bartow County Panthers shutout the North Georgia Cowboys 32-0 at Woodland High School in Northwest Georgia Youth Football League action.


Warmack had touchdown runs of 40 and 10 yards and caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Clay Hilburn. The 10U Panthers also scored on a 35-yard run by Jake Orton and a five-yard scoring run by Lawson Weeks. Weeks and Micah Pittman added extra point runs for the 32-point total. Note: Jorian Bailey had a pick-six interception return for a touchdown that was nullified for weight restriction advancement of the ball per league rules.


In addition to the interception, Deon Winters and Clay Hilburn had fumble recoveries for the 10U Panthers’ defense.


The loss drops the North Georgia Cowboys to 0-3 in league play.


10U Bartow improved to 3-0 and is currently tied with Rome and Wallace Park at the top of the D2 standings.


The 10U Bartow County Panthers play at the Douglasville TigerCubs Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.

9U BARTOW COUNTY PANTHERS 29, ROSS LONGHORNS 7

Four different Panthers found paydirt Saturday as the 9U Bartow County Panthers defeated previously unbeaten Ross Longhorns 29-7 at Woodland High School. Bartow opened the scoring in the second quarter and took a 7-0 lead to halftime on a touchdown run by Cooper Melvin and an extra point run by quarterback Trace Hawkins.


Kaiden Kent scored on a third quarter run and Hawkins hit Lance Tippett on a two-point conversion pass to extend the Panthers’ lead to 15-0. ​​ In the fourth quarter, Chris McClendon added a scoring run and Bartow completed another two-point pass from Hawkins to Javious Davis. The acrobatic catch by Davis was hauled in by the diving receiver after the pass was tipped.


The Panthers added a 48-yard touchdown run by Solomon James to take a 29-0 lead. The Longhorns scored their touchdown in the game’s waining moments. “Our offensive line was outstanding,” said Panthers’ coach Quintin Kent. “Buddy Lilly had a great game with three pancake blocks, but that group made a huge difference today and controlled the line of scrimmage in the second half.”


Melvin finished with 54 yards rushing and added 23 receiving yards. Kent totaled 62 yards rushing. James contributed 50 yards rushing. Hawkins had 32 yards and McClendon added 22 yards. Melvin led the 9U Panthers’ defense with 11 tackles. He was followed by Davis with five, James four, McClendon three, Tippett two, and Nathan Woods with two tackles. Kayden Blackwell forced a fumble.


The 9U Ross Longhorns dropped to 3-1 on the season.


The 9U Panthers are ranked No. 6 in the state in the latest D1 Nation Georgia youth football rankings and lead the NWGYL standings with a 3-0 mark. The Panthers travel Saturday to Douglasville to face the Bill Arp Falcons at 10 a.m.

8U BARTOW COUNTY PANTHERS 34, ROSS LONGHORNS 12 The 8U Bartow County Panthers evened their NWGYFL record at 2-2 Saturday at Woodland High School with a 34-12 victory over the visiting Ross Longhorns. Landon Smith had over 120 yards rushing and scored on touchdown runs of 45 and 50 yards. Anthony Moreno finished with approximately 80 rushing yards that included a 50-yard scoring jaunt. Gary Douglas contributed a 50-yard touchdown run and more than 80 yards rushing. Douglas also had three PAT runs, while Jaiden Taylor added a 30-yard touchdown scamper for the Panthers. Douglas paced the defensive effort for Bartow with 10 tackles. Taylor and Smith finished with five stops each while Joziah Upshaw, Moreno, and Karsin Darby added three tackles apiece. The loss kept Ross winless in league action at 0-4. The 8U Panthers travel to play the Chattanooga Ravens Saturday at 5 p.m. at Grace Baptist Academy in Chattanooga.

12U BARTOW COUNTY PANTHERS 34, WINSTON KNIGHTS 0

The 12U Bartow County Panthers won a battle of NWGYFL unbeatens Saturday at Woodland High School to take the top spot in the standings at 3-0. Five different Panthers scored touchdowns as Bartow blanked the Winston Knights, 34-0. Brodie McWhorter, Jacob Ellis, Treshaun Reed, Isaiah Livsey, and Xavier Parker each scored a touchdown for the locals.


Meanwhile, the Bartow defense surrendered only six first downs and 105 total yards (76 rushing, 29 passing) as the Panthers rolled up over 300 yards on the ground and almost 100 through the air.


“They (Knights) had not been scored upon in their first two league games and they moved the ball early, but our defense clamped down,” commented Panthers’ coach Josh McWhorter Sunday afternoon.

“It was really a complete game by our Panthers. The offense started chewing up yardage and the clock. It was our offensive line unit’s best game of the year so far,” he concluded.


Livsey finished with 101 yards rushing and a touchdown on 10 carries. Baylon Long followed with 88 rushing yards on 13 attempts. ​​ Jachai Delgado of the 12U Panthers contributed 57 yards on eight carries. Ellis finished with 26 yards and a score on three attempts and Reed had a touchdown and 10 yards on three carries.


McWhorter was 5-for-12 passing for 92 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 19 yards and another touchdown on four attempts. Talan Nix caught two passes for 49 yards. Parker had the 24-yard scoring play, and Logan Shrewsbury caught two passes for 19 yards and had a two-point conversion reception.


A dozen different 12U Panthers recorded at least one tackle on defense led by Ellis with four tackles, a quarterback sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Livsey had 4.5 tackles and Kelson Mitchell finished with 3.5 stops. Cooper Moon had a pair of tackles. Mason Tompkins and Parker tossed in 1.5 tackles each. Keve Porter and Shrewsbury both had 1.5 tackles and broke up two passes each. Nix made a tackle and had one interception. Treshaun Reed, Davis Waddell, and Bear McWhorter added one tackle each.


The loss dropped the Winston Knights to 2-1 in NWGYFL league play. Bartow (4-0, 3-0) travels to play the Chattanooga Ravens Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Grace Baptist Academy.

10U at Dellinger Park

CARTERSVILLE HURRICANES (Nunn) 24, ADAIRSVILLE TIGERS 0 Tyon Coe had 109 yards on eight carries including a pair of touchdowns for Hurricanes (Nunn). Kaleb Holton finished with 19 yards and a touchdown on four attempts while Jaylon Watkins added a 34 yard touchdown run. Timothy Coe led the Hurricanes (Nunn) defense with five tackles including one for loss. Braxton Elrod paced the Tigers’ defense with four tackles and one interception.

CARTERSVILLE HURRICANES (Cagle) 27, CASS COLONELS 6 Jovani Bautista-Jackson scored two touchdowns and totaled 32 yards rushing on three carries for Hurricanes (Cagle). Clint Hosea contributed 45 yards rushing and a touchdown on his two carries and Dixon Lindsey added a 15 yard touchdown carry. Payton Paul led the Hurricanes (Cagle) defense with four tackles including one for loss and an interception. Note: No roster was available for the Cass team.

8U at Dellinger Park

CARTERSVILLE HURRICANES (Stepp) 28, CARTERSVILLE HURRICANES (Canty) 0

Hurricanes (Stepp) got touchdown runs from four different players including runs of 5 yards by Easton Stephens, a 24-yarder by Elijah Garrett, a 45-yarder by Cameron Caldwell, and a 20-yard run by Timi King. Luke Gaines and Stephon Andrade were identified as the top defenders for Hurricanes (Stepp).



10U at Dellinger Park

CARTERSVILLE HURRICANES (King) 40, CASS BLUE 7

Dustin McConnell had touchdown runs from 35 yards, 60 yards, and 30 yards in the Hurricanes (King) win. He also added a pair of PAT runs. Cooper Reynolds scored on a pair of short quarterback keepers from 4 yards and 2 yards out and Zachary Stiles added a 22 yard touchdown run. Matthew Cook and John Brady Nichols were identified as the top defenders for Hurricanes (King). Cass scored on a 56 yard jaunt by Jacobian Sturgis. Demontre Cochran added the Cass PAT run. Cochran and Tyrie Glunt were named top defenders in the contest.



10U at Dellinger Park

CARTERSVILLE HURRICANES (Cagle) 27, CARTERSVILLE HURRICANES (NUNN) 6

Hurricanes (Cagle) scored on an 11 yard touchdown run by Jovani Bautista-Jackson, an eight yard run by Jayden Newman, a five yard run by Clint Hosea, and a three yard run by Cole Henson. Dixon Lindsey also connected with Henson for a PAT pass following the initial scoring play. Drake Bailey and Payton Paul were selected as top defenders for Hurricanes (Cagle). Tyon Coe broke multiple tackles and scored a second quarter touchdown for Hurricanes (Nunn) with a 25 yard run. Jaylon Watkins, Davian Turner, and Coe were named top defenders for Hurricanes (Nunn).



12U at Dellinger Park

CARTERSVILLE HURRICANES (Parker) 18, CARTERSVILLE HURRICANES (Ezell) 6

Hurricanes (Parker) scored on a first quarter, 30 yard scamper by JaCaiden Leonard, a Luke Parker to Thomas Smith 20 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, and a five yard quarterback keeper by Parker. Thomas Martin, Adam Reed, and Jordyn Woods were identified as top defenders for Hurricanes (Parker). Maddox Frazier scored the Hurricanes (Ezell) touchdown in the fourth quarter on a five yard run. Korbyn Jarrett and Frazier were named top defenders.
