Cass basketball teams win games Saturday


The Cass High School girls and boys basketball teams collected one sided wins Saturday. The girls routed Chattahoochee at home 66-17 while the boys defeated North Cobb Christian at LakePoint, 82-62.


The Lady Colonels raced to a 16-2 advantage after one quarter and were never really threatened. The Cass lead was 31-12 at the intermission and 54-14 after three quarters. Claire Davis had 26 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. Londaisha Smith followed with 17 points and made five steals. Haley Johnson and Ariana Hames scored six points each. Mikaela Jackson contributed four points. Amaya Ford finished with three points while Justice Bennett scored two points with eight rebounds and four blocks. Keara McDaniel added two points for Cass.


The loss dropped Chattahoochee to 1-1 on the young season. Cass (1-0) plays at Lassiter Tuesday night and hosts Lithonia Friday. Both games are 6 p.m. starts.




COLONELS BOUNCE BACK WITH WIN OVER NORTH COBB CHRISTIAN


The Cass boys bounced back from a season opening loss with a sound 82-62 victory Saturday over North Cobb Christian at the LakePoint Tip Off event in Emerson.


“It was a good win today over a tough North Cobb Christian team,” said Cass boys coach Sean Glaze. “We had nine different scorers and displayed terrific defensive energy throughout the game.” North Cobb Christian led 20-18 after one quarter before Cass carried a 41-37 lead to the locker room at halftime. The Colonels led 61-50 after three periods and outscored North Cobb Christian 21-12 in the fourth quarter for a 20-point win.


Zaylan Chaney and Braxton Benham paced Cass with 22 and 20 points, respectively. Jaquan Heard followed with 11 points — all scored in the first quarter. Jordan Ford had nine points. C.J. Pipkins scored eight. Zay Jackson finished with five points. Andrew Glaze contributed three, while Jacorey Jackson and Trey Scott chipped in with two each. Kami Young led the Eagles and all scorers with 33 points. Makhi Ma and Caleb Crumly tossed in 10 points each for North Cobb Christian. Josiah Scott added eight. The loss drops North Cobb Christian to 1-1 on the season. Cass (1-1) travels to Lassiter Tuesday night (7:30 p.m.) and will face Northwest Whitfield Thursday in the Chattooga Thanksgiving Tournament in Summerville in a 5:30 p.m. tip. The Colonels will challenge the host Indians at Chattooga Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
