10-run first inning lifts Lady Canes to region win

The Lady Canes wasted little time putting their game away Tuesday evening by scoring ten runs in the home half of the first half as part of an 11-1, four-inning Region 7-AAAAA win over Hiram.
Cartersville sent 13 to the plate in the first inning and took control with four singles, a double, a bases loaded walk, and a three-run home run by AnnaKate McElhaney. The Hornets also committed three errors in the frame.
Hiram had its only two hits and scored its only run in the fourth inning.
Canes’ pitchers McKinley Chada (3.1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) and Ava Perkins (0.2 IP, 0R, 2K) combined for the win in the circle.
McElhaney (HR, 3 RBI), Kiley Arnold (double, 3 RBI), and Mattie Johnson (2 RBI) had two hits each for Cartersville. Campbell Rogers, Mikey Lewis, and Chada added one hit apiece.
The loss dropped Hiram to 0-7 in region action. The Hornets are 1-9 overall.
Cartersville improved to 4-16 overall and 2-7 in Region 7-AAAAA.
The two teams will complete their region 3-game series Thursday with a doubleheader at Hiram.
