  • Undefeated Northeast Alabama CC blanks Chargers

    March 4, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com Georgia Highlands College softball lost both games of a home doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the unbeaten and nationally third-ranked Northeast Alabama CC Mustangs 4-0 and 10-0. Northeast Alabama starting pitcher, Addie Edwards, recorded eight strikeouts and tossed a complete-game one-hitter in the first game. The Mustangs then used a trio of pitchers in the circle in the second game and again limited the GHC offense to just four hits. Emily Ferro (6 IP, 4R, 3ER, 9H, 1BB, 2K) and Athens Hudson (1 IP, 0R, 0H) pitched for the Chargers in the opening loss. CeCe Williams (1.2 IP, 5ER, 3H, 3BB, 1K) and Hudson (5.1 IP, 5R, 3ER, 8H, 2BB, 2K) pitched for Georgia Highlands in Game 2. Anslee Logan had the only Chargers hit in the first game. Emma Darrow (double), Gracie Azpeitia, Williams, and Logan had one hit in the second game. Northeast Alabama CC improved to 18-0 on the season. Georgia Highlands (8-10, 1-1 GCAA) hosts a conference doubleheader with Gordon State College on Sunday at 1 p.m.

  • Woodland soccer sweeps to wins over Cedartown, Adairsville girls blank Dragons

    March 4, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Woodland Wildcats picked up a solid Region 7-AAAA victory Tuesday evening, defeating the Cedartown Bulldogs 4-1 at Wildcats Stadium in Cartersville. Cedartown struck first, scoring in the 11th minute to take an early 1-0 lead. The Wildcats responded before halftime, with Aiden Carrillo equalizing in the 35th minute on an assist from Luis Sanchez, sending the teams into the break tied at 1-1. Woodland took control after the intermission. In the 43rd minute, Marvin Morales converted a free kick to give the Wildcats a 2-1 advantage. They added insurance in the 53rd minute when Abel Pineda finished off a free kick assist from Hunter Limbaugh for a 3-1 lead. The Wildcats sealed the win with a late goal in the 78th minute, as Danny Chavez scored off an assist from Aiden Carrillo. Goalkeeper Seth Goodall was sharp in the net for Woodland, making seven saves to preserve the victory and limit the Bulldogs' opportunities. The win improves Woodland's record to 4-2 overall, and 1-0 in Region 7-AAAA play. Cedartown falls to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the region. The Wildcats hit the road for their next matchup, traveling to Dalton to face the Catamounts on Friday at 7:30 p.m. LADY TIGERS BLANK PICKENS, 6-0 The Adairsville Lady Tigers delivered a dominant performance on the road, shutting out the Pickens Lady Dragons 6-0 in a girls' high school soccer matchup played in Jasper. Adairsville built a commanding 3-0 lead by halftime, setting the stage for a convincing victory. Sam Gough opened the scoring in the 17th minute, finishing off an assist from Braylynn Martin. Addi Jerauld doubled the advantage in the 29th minute with an assist from Ella Edwards. Alexa Damer made it 3-0 in the 35th minute, connecting on a pass from Martin. The Lady Tigers kept the pressure on in the second half. Martin scored in the 48th minute off an assist from Alivia Joslin to push the lead to 4-0. Joslin added to the tally in the 62nd minute, assisted by Jerauld. Damer completed the scoring in the 68th minute with a penalty kick for the final 6-0 margin. Adairsville assistant coach Amanda Jones praised the team's strong passing game throughout the contest. Coach Jones also highlighted the leadership of Samantha Gough, who excelled in communication and directing the flow of the game, particularly on the Tigers' counterattacks. The win improves Adairsville's overall record to 5-1. Pickens drops to 4-1 overall with the loss. The Lady Tigers return to action with their next match at Northwest Whitfield on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. WOODLAND LADY CATS WIN REGION OPENER The Woodland Lady Cats earned a clean-sheet shutout victory Tuesday evening, blanking the Cedartown Lady Bulldogs 4-0 in a Region 7-AAAA girls soccer matchup at home. Woodland carried a 1-0 lead into halftime and then pulled away in the second half, adding three more goals to secure the convincing win. The shutout improves Woodland's record to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAAA play, giving the team an early foothold in the region standings. Cedartown, despite entering the match with a strong 4-1 overall record, falls to 0-1 in region action with the loss. Woodland will look to build on the momentum when it hits the road for its next contest, traveling to face Dalton on Friday at 5:30 p.m. CARTERSVILLE SOCCER TEAMS FALL AT ALLATOONA The Allatoona Buccaneers swept a Region 7-AAAA doubleheader Tuesday against Cartersville, with both the girls' and boys' teams posting shutout victories on the Buccaneers' pitch in Acworth. In the girls' matchup, the Allatoona won 5-0, after erupting for four goals in the first half. Junior Helen Leaming stepped in as goalkeeper for the second half and delivered an impressive performance, allowing only a single goal—and that coming from a penalty kick. Her effort helped steady the team and energize a more physical, determined Cartersville side after the break. Lady Canes' coach, Mary Beth Popham, said that "Despite the 5-0 final, the match was far more competitive than the scoreline suggests," said Lady Canes' coach Mary Beth Popham. "The girls played with grit, intensity, and resilience from whistle to whistle, showing clear growth and fight throughout the contest." The win moves Allatoona to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAAA play. Cartersville falls to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the region with the loss. The Lady Canes will look to rebound when they travel to face Cass on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The boys' game followed a similar script, as the Buccaneers blanked the Purple Hurricanes 6-0. Allatoona led 4-0 at halftime and added two more in the second half. The victory improves Allatoona's record to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAAA. Cartersville drops to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in region competition. The Purple Hurricanes are next in action at Cass on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

  • Lady Colonels win region opener, Cass boys fall at Southeast Whitfield

    March 3, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Cass Lady Colonels dominated on the road Tuesday night, defeating the Southeast Whitfield Lady Raiders 4-1 in a Region 7-AAAA girls soccer matchup in Dalton. The Lady Colonels struck first in the opening half, with Amy Villanueva netting the game's opening goal off an assist from Ryland Piatt with 32:49 remaining before halftime. That 1-0 lead held into the break, setting the tone for a strong second-half performance by Cass. Cass exploded for three more goals after the intermission.  Nat Hughes doubled the advantage with 36:27 left, again courtesy of a pinpoint assist from Piatt. Zoe Bailey made it 3-0 at the 17:34 mark, finishing off a feed from Villanueva. Vanne Garcia capped the Lady Colonels’ scoring with 4:31 to play, converting a pass from Chloe Hunt to push the lead to 4-0. Southeast Whitfield managed a late consolation goal with just 2:00 remaining, but it was too little, too late. Cass coach Kyle Calandra commended the back line that was impenetrable for most of the contest. Hayleigh McGeehan, Shania Hernandez, Willow White, and Fatima Lopez turning in a solid defensive effort. In midfield, Gracey Nash, Jillian Silva, and Gisselle Sanabria controlled the tempo, winning key battles and distributing effectively to fuel the attack. “It was a balanced team effort,” added Calandra. “Tonight was a true collective win built on strong defense, creative midfield play, and some nice finishes up top.” Southeast Whitfield slipped to 1-7 overall and 0-1 in region play. Cass (2-3, 1-0) hosts Cartersville on Friday at 5:30 p.m. SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 5, CASS BOYS 1 The host Raiders took an early 2-0 lead and held off the Cass Colonels for a 5-1 Region 7-AAAA victory Tuesday night in Dalton. Southeast Whitfield scored in the 9th and 15th minutes to build a 2-0 advantage. Anthony Diaz scored off an assist from Tabo Mwandu with just over ten minutes remaining in the first half to narrow the margin to 2-1 at the break. The second half belonged to the Raiders, however, as they added three more goals to pull away.  Southeast Whitfield improved to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in region action. Cass (3-2, 0-1) hosts Cartersville for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday.

  • Lady Canes topple Titans to reach the Class AAAA Final Four

    March 3, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com Zoe McCurry scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds Tuesday as the Lady Canes advanced to the Class AAAA Final Four. The Cartersville Lady Canes defeated the visiting Northview Titans 64-51 Tuesday night at The Storm Center, advancing the program to the GHSA Final Four for the second time in three years. Cartersville raced to an early lead, then held off a third-quarter threat before taking control in the fourth quarter. The Lady Canes led 22-8 after one quarter and 40-22 at halftime. Northview charged back in the third quarter by outscoring Cartersville 19-6, but the Hurricanes responded with an 18-10 final eight minutes for the victory. Columbus State signee Kaytlin Arnold paced Cartersville with 20 points, including 17 points in the first half and three buckets from behind the arc. Zoe McCurry scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Trinity Montgomery also produced 13 points with six boards and five assists. Blakely Morris contributed nine points. Reese Gibson pitched in seven, and Akira Leonard added two points for the Canes. Kelly Reynolds and Erin Hobbs led Northview (18-13) with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Cartersville (24-5) advanced to the Class AAAA state semifinals to play Marist (27-2) at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Akins Arena in Athens. The War Eagles defeated North Oconee 63-49 on Tuesday in their quarterfinal game. The other Class AAAA semifinal will be Kell (24-5) against Jones County (25-5) on Saturday in Athens at 1 p.m.  Kell topped Dalton 52-41 on Tuesday, and Jones County defeated Creekside 48-34.

  • Tuesday's diamond roundup: Canes open region slate with a win over Allatoona

    March 3, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com Cartersville claimed victory in its region opener on Tuesday, breaking a seven-game losing streak, while Cass, Woodland, and Adairsville each lost their initial region contests. CARTERSVILLE 5, ALLATOONA 0 Georgia Southern signee and right-hand pitcher Nate Russell tossed a complete game one-hitter on Tuesday night to lead the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes to a 5-0 shutout win over visiting Allatoona. Russell walked three, hit one batter, and struck out 12 of 25 batters faced. Nolan Elrod contributed an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 Cartersville lead, and the score stayed that way until the sixth. The Canes took advantage of three walks, an Allatoona error, two hits, and a sacrifice fly to plate four insurance runs in the sixth inning to secure the Region 7-AAAA win. Clint Hosea had two hits, including a double and two RBI, for Cartersville. Brant Rutledge and Brayden Logan each added one hit. David Vargas contributed one RBI with a sacrifice fly. Allatoona (3-4, 0-1) will host a doubleheader with Cartersville (3-7, 1-0) on Friday, starting at 5 p.m. DALTON 10, CASS 6 The Colonels rallied for five runs in the final two innings at Dalton on Tuesday night, but could not overcome an early 10-1 deficit, losing their Region 7-AAAA opener to the Catamounts. Dalton scored in each of the first five innings to build a big lead, although Cass outhit the Catamounts twelve to eleven. Cane Woods and London Cox led the Dalton offense, combining for six hits and seven RBI. Woods homered twice, tripled, and doubled with four RBI. Cass starting pitcher Dustin Wallin (2.1 IP, 8R, 6ER, 7H, 2BB, 5K) took the loss on the mound. Landon Farmer (1.2 IP, 1ER, 1H, 1BB, 1K) and Andrew Ray (2 IP, 1ER, 3H, 0BB, 1K) pitched in relief. Zach Stiles (RBI) had two hits for the Colonels. Maddox Koontz (two RBI), Kasey Jacobs (two RBI), Noah Rogers (RBI), Landon Lamb, Dawson Warner, Easton Lee, Cooper Rampley, Farmer, and Wallin each added one hit. Dalton (5-2, 1-0) and Cass (3-7, 0-1) will continue their region series on Friday at Cass in a 5 p.m. doubleheader. CEDARTOWN 12, WOODLAND 8 The Wildcats and host Bulldogs traded blows in the early innings on Tuesday evening, but Cedartown came away with a 12-8 Region 7-AAAA win. There were four lead changes in the early going. Woodland led 1-0 with a run in the top of the first. Cedartown answered to lead 4-1 at the end of the frame. The Wildcats regained the lead at 6-4 in the top of the second, and Cedartown scored seven runs in their next two frames to build an 11-6 lead. Logan Smith (4 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 0BB, 3K) was tagged with the pitching loss for the Wildcats in relief of starter Blake Forstie (0.2 IP, 4ER, 4H, 1BB), and reliever Brylon Reynolds (1.1 IP, 6R, 5ER, 6H, 1K). Grant Tidwell had two doubles and two RBI to lead the Woodland bats. Tommy Risner (triple, sacrifice fly, two RBI), Sammy Ray (RBI), Jonathan Ryan (RBI), and Preston Sorrells added one hit for the Wildcats. Woodland (5-4, 0-1) will host Cedartown (3-3, 1-0) in a doubleheader on Friday, scheduled for a 5 p.m. start. CALHOUN 6, ADAIRSVILLE 3 Adairsville scored three runs in the top of the first inning Tuesday evening at Calhoun, but the Yellow Jackets responded with six unanswered runs over the first five frames to beat the Tigers 6-3. The Adairsville defense committed five errors that contributed to three unearned runs, and the Tigers’ pitchers issued seven walks in the loss. McCayden Hufstetler (3 IP, 5R, 3ER, 6H, 4BB, 2K) made the pitching start for Adairsville and was saddled with the loss. Westin Barfield (1.1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 1H, 3BB, 3K) pitched in the middle innings, and Tyler Parker (1.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 3K) retired the final five outs for the Tigers. Barfield had two hits and one RBI for Adairsville. Kaden Coker (double), Brody Varner, Harrison Cole, and Hufstetler each added one hit in the loss.  Calhoun (8-3, 1-0) visits Adairsville (8-3, 0-1) on Thursday, and the two teams will complete the three-game series on Friday back in Calhoun.

  • Chargers surge past Hawks in GCAA opener

    March 3, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com Georgia Highlands College baseball won its Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association opener on Tuesday afternoon, defeating visiting South Georgia State 13-3 in seven innings. South Georgia tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the fourth, but the Chargers responded with 10 unanswered runs over their next three frames to end the game early. Georgia Highlands outhit the Hawks thirteen to four. David McKechnie picked up the pitching victory with a five-inning start. He allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while fanning eight. Braxton Wade worked two shutout innings to close out the win. Wade yielded only one hit with no walks in the sixth and seventh innings. Every Charger in the batting order had at least one hit, led by Carson Page with four hits and one RBI. Emiliano Dominguez had two hits and one RBI. Andrew Bishop (home run, three RBI), Harper Davenport (home run, three RBI), Mason Moore (home run, two RBI), Wyatt Gatlin (double, sac fly, RBI), Caden Marcos, Aidan Larkin, and Hayden Miller (triple) each added one hit. The loss dropped South Georgia State to 15-10 overall and 0-1 in conference action. Georgia Highlands (21-7, 1-0) welcomes Andrew College for a conference doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.

  • Three Canes set new school records at Purple Hurricane Track & Field Invitational

    March 3, 2026 Charles Wilson / BartowSportsZone.com The Cartersville High School track and field teams hosted the Purple Hurricane Invitational this past Saturday, with 14 boys teams and 13 girls teams participating. The Cartersville boys scored 98 points and finished runner-up to Alexander (150.5). Cherokee (63.5), Darlington (62.5), and Woodstock (55) rounded out the top five. The Woodland boys finished eleventh with 17.5 points. Woodstock (121) won the girls' title, followed by Cherokee (76), Alexander (75), Cartersville (61), and North Cobb (59) in the top five. The Woodland girls placed 12th with 23 points. Carder Brock, Madoxx Davis, and Thoreau Lipscomb established new school records for Cartersville. Brock won the girls' discus throw with a throw of 125 feet, setting a new program mark. Davis won the boys' 100-meter dash with a school record time of 10.65, and Lipscomb won the boys' shot put with a new school-best mark of 57 feet, 11 inches.   • Cartersville gymnasts third at recent home meet

    March 2, 2026 The Cartersville High School varsity gymnastics team hosted its second meet on Saturday, February 28, at Cartersville Twisters Gym, competing against strong 5A and 6A programs from Cherokee, Etowah, and Lassiter. Cartersville earned an impressive third-place overall finish with a team score of 101.750. Senior Emerie Elrod led the way, placing first on vault with a state preliminary qualifying score of 9.4. She also earned a state preliminary qualifying score of 8.5 on beam. Freshman Ellie Kate Jones had an outstanding performance, placing third on vault with a state preliminary qualifying score of 9.1. Jones also earned an All-Around preliminary state qualifying score of 34.0, marking an impressive milestone early in her high school career. Sophomores Sydney Jackson and Adalynn Weir each earned their first preliminary qualifying scores on beam, with strong routines, scoring 8.80 and 8.90, respectively. "I'm excited about the team's early success. I look forward to what the season holds for this talented and hardworking group of gymnasts," said Cartersville coach Kimberly Mosteller. The Lady Canes will host their next meet at the Cartersville Twisters Gym on Saturday, March 14.

He has worked 4-⅓ innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts. He has a 1-1 record this spring. BASKETBALL SE’NAI CAMPER — Montreat College (Fr., Cartersville HS) … in a conference tournament game win over Columbia College and a tourney loss to Milligan University, Camper totaled nine points, six rebounds, two steals, and one assist. She averaged 4.5 points and 2.9 rebounds this season, appearing in 26 games. The Cavaliers finished with an 11-17 record. JA’KA’YAH DRAUGHN — Brewton Parker Christian University (So., Cartersville HS) … scored five points, with four rebounds, one steal, and one assist in a 90-71 first-round Southern States Athletic Conference tournament loss to the University of Mobile in Montgomery, Alabama. Draughn averaged 9.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 27 games this season as the Barons finished with a 7-21 record. ANSLEY GRIFFIN — North Carolina Wesleyan University (So., Cartersville HS) … scored 17 points with one rebound, one assist, and one steal February 24 in a 91-69 USA South Athletic Conference first-round tournament win over Greensboro College (NC) in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She also had three steals and two rebounds without scoring in a 74-71 tournament loss last Thursday to Southern Virginia University. Griffin averaged 2.5 points and one rebound per game in 26 appearances this season. The Battlin’ Bishops completed the season with a 15-11 record. ZION HAYES — Vincennes University (So., Cass HS) … totaled 19 points in a home win on February 25 over Olney Central College (IL) and a loss last Saturday at Wabash Valley College (IL). Hayes also had eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals in those two games. The Trailblazers (19-8) host Southwestern Illinois College on Tuesday. ZYON HEATH — LaGrange College (So., Woodland HS) … made brief Collegiate Conference of the South tournament appearances last Friday and Saturday at Maryville College (TN) and on Saturday against Belhaven University (MS) in Maryville, scoring one point with two rebounds. The Panthers defeated Asbury University (KY) and Maryville College in the semifinals, but lost to Belhaven University in the championship game, 92-73. LaGrange finished the season with a 16-12 record. HALEY JOHNSON — Reinhardt University (Sr., Cass HS) … appeared in two Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament games last week — wins over Johnson Universitiy (TN) and Spartanburg Methodist. She had three rebounds and one steal in the two games. Reinhardt reached the tournament finals, but lost to Milligan University 64-62. The Eagles (23-7) have earned a bid into the 2025-26 NAIA National Tournament and await their site assignment. KEARA McDANIEL — Toccoa Falls College (Sr., Cass HS) … totaled 19 points with 11 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals as the Screaming Eagles beat Southeastern Baptist, but lost to Pensacola Christian at the National Christian College Division II South Region Tournament. McDaniel averaged eight points and four rebounds this season. Toccoa Falls finished the season with a 10-20 record. T.J. PRINTUP — Tusculum University (R-Jr., Adairsville HS) … totaled 33 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, three blocks, and two assists last week in losses at Emory & Henry and at home against 8th-ranked Anderson University. The Pioneers (10-18, 6-16 South Atlantic Conference) did not qualify for the conference tournament. BEACH VOLLEYBALL AILEE ENGLAND — Berry College (So., Cartersville HS) …  partnered with teammate Kaylee Howell as the Vikings went 3-1 last Friday and Saturday at the Badger Beach Bash in Mobile, Alabama. The duo had a 21-13, 21-12 win against their opponents from Huntingdon College (AL), but lost in three sets, 20-22, 23-21, 15-11, to their Spring Hill College (AL) opponents in a 3-2 team loss. In a 4-1 team win over Erskine College, the duo won a Line 3 match 21-16, 21-19, and they won 21-8, 21-12 in a 5-0 team victory over LaGrange College. Berry (6-3) hosts the Berry Kick-Off with Tennessee Tech and LaGrange College on Friday and Saturday. LAUREN LAWSON — University of South Carolina (So., Cartersville HS) …  played in an extra match and had split the first two sets with partner Sadie Nelson in the Gamecocks’ 4-1 win last Friday over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Their match was halted. The duo also lost an extra match to Coastal Carolina last Saturday, as USC won 4-1 over the Chanticleers. South Carolina (6-2) went 4-0 at the Wheeler Beach Bash, with additional team wins over Austin Peay and Chattanooga. They host the Carolina Challenge on Friday and Saturday with the College of Charleston, Boise State, Jacksonville University, and North Carolina-Wilmington. TENNIS EMILY BUSH — University of North Georgia (Sr., Cartersville HS) … won her Line 6 singles match 7-6, 6-0, and paired with Linn Goerdes at Line 2 doubles to win 6-4 as the Nighthawks blanked Lincoln Memorial University 7-0 on Sunday in Dahlonega.  UNG hosts Carson-Newman University (TN) on Monday and will participate in the Scenic City Spring Break Showcase on March 9-12 in Chattanooga. GYMNASTICS ABIGAIL BUNCH — Rhode Island College (Sr., Cass HS) … scored a 9.400 on the unbalanced bars and a 9.300 on balance beam this past Sunday as the Anchorwomen won a four-team meet at Utica University (NY), defeating the hosts, Ithaca College (NY), and Springfield College (RI). RIC will host the NCGA East Championship in Providence on Saturday. INDOOR TRACK & FIELD ANDY FORSYTH — Berry College (So., Woodland HS) … finished second (1:57.49) in the 800 meters at the Southern Athletic Association Track & Field Championships last weekend in Danville, Kentucky. The Vikings finished third in the nine-team conference championship meet behind Centre College (KY) and Trinity University (TX). Next for Berry, they will host the Victor Icebreaker Duals on Saturday, with the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham on March 13-14. DANIELLE THAYER — Augusta University (So., Woodland HS) … finished 12th (18:48.61) in the 5000-meter run at the 2026 Peach Belt Conference Indoor Championships in Gainesville, Florida. Augusta moves to an outdoor schedule on March 20-21 at Emory University's Invitational. GOLF ANDREW LUTJENS — Georgia College (Fr., Cartersville HS) … carded rounds of 78-78-72 and tied for 35th as the Bobcats finished 13th of 16 teams at the Oldfield Classic on February 22-23 in Okatie, South Carolina. Georgia Southwestern won the tournament. The next tournament for Georgia College is the Lander University Greenwood Invitational. BRODY TIDWELL — Georgia State University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … fired rounds of 71-76-72 and tied for 26th place as the Panthers finished 11th of 15 teams at the Dorado Beach Collegiate on February 21-22 in Puerto Rico. Georgia State plays in the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday (March 2-3) hosted by Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. SOFTBALL  KILEY ARNOLD — Shorter University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … started three of four games last week for the Hawks as they beat Clark Atlanta twice last Thursday, but lost twice to Emmanuel University (GA) on Saturday. Arnold was 2-for-6 at the plate with one RBI and scored one run. The Hawks (6-15, 0-2 Conference Carolinas) host conference doubleheaders with Erskine College (SC) on Tuesday and  Belmont Abbey College (NC) on Saturday. JORDAN BISHOP — Virginia Tech (Fr., Cartersville HS) … appeared in two games last weekend as the Hokies went 5-0 at the Auburn University Jane B. Moore Memorial. Bishop entered as a pinch runner, scored a run, and played defensively at catcher in a win over USC-Upstate on Sunday. She also had an unsuccessful pinch-hitting appearance against the same team on Friday. Virginia Tech also had two wins over Auburn and one over Troy. The Hokies (16-2) host their own invitational from Thursday through Sunday, featuring Michigan, James Madison, Penn State, Radford, and Bryant. HAYLEE DISHMON — Berry College (Jr., Cass HS) … made a start in right field on February 25 at LaGrange and was 0-for-2 at the plate with a sacrifice hit, an RBI, and one run scored as the Vikings won 8-0. Berry was 3-1 for the week, sweeping two games at LaGrange and splitting a doubleheader this past Saturday at Emory University. The Vikings (7-1) will play DePauw University (IN), East Texas Baptist University, Denison University (OH), Trine University (OH), Spalding University (KY), and Bethel University (MN) this weekend at the NFCA Lead-Off Classic in Columbus, Georgia. MEGAN GREGORY — Indiana University (Jr., Adairsville HS) … pitched the fifth inning, facing five batters with two walks and one strikeout this past Saturday in a 9-0 win over Charleston Southern University at the Elon & UNCG Tournament in Elon, North Carolina. The Hoosiers went 5-0 in the tournament, with additional wins over UNC Greensboro twice, Elon, and Charleston Southern. Indiana (16-4) begins Big Ten Conference action this weekend with a three-game home series on Friday through Sunday against Minnesota. ANSLEY HIGHT — Reinhardt University (Jr., Cass HS) … started six of seven games played by the Eagles last week in Columbus at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia, and at home against Montreat College (NC). She was 6-for-20 at the plate with two homers, five RBI, and one walk. Reinhardt went 4-3 during the week.  The Eagles (6-3) play a doubleheader at Bryan College (TN) on Friday. ALYSSA JARRETT — Piedmont University (Jr., Adairsville HS) … appeared in five home games last week — three against Pfeiffer University (NC) and two against Mount St. Joseph University (OH). The Lions’ catcher was 1-for-11 at the plate, including a triple and one RBI. Piedmont went 3-2 for the week and is now 3-5 on the season. The Lions visit Salem College (NC) on Wednesday for a doubleheader before playing in the Diamond Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday through Sunday. Piedmont will face Mary Baldwin University (VA), Salisbury University (MD), the University of Lynchburg (VA), Methodist University (NC), Eastern Mennonite University (VA), and Randolph-Macon College (VA) in that tournament. Valdosta State (9-7, 5-1 Gulf South Conference) has a three-game conference series at the University of West Alabama on Saturday and Sunday. AVA PERKINS — Lander University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … made a start at second base and was 0-for-2 with two walks on February 25 in a 6-0 home loss to Francis Marion University. BASEBALL CURT BONNER — LaGrange College (Sr., Cartersville HS) … went 3-for-15 at the plate as the Panthers lost a home game to Emory University on February 24 and swept a three-game weekend series at North Carolina Wesleyan University. He was hit by a pitch, walked twice, and drove in four runs in the four games. LaGrange (9-4) hosts Oglethorpe University for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday. CALEB DANIEL — Georgia Tech (So., Cartersville HS) … went 5-for-15 in four games last week, including one home run, two doubles, six runs scored, one RBI, one walk, and one hit by pitch. The Yellow Jackets lost to visiting Georgia State University on February 24 and swept a weekend home series against Northwestern University. Third-ranked Georgia Tech (11-1) visits Georgia State on Tuesday before hosting an Atlantic Coast Conference three-game series with Virginia Tech on Friday through Sunday. ELLIOTT EASTIN — Covenant College (Jr., Cartersville HS) … in three losses to Emory University last week, Eastin was 3-for-8 with one walk, one hit by pitch, one stolen base, and three RBI. The Scots (6-4) visit Sewanee-University of the South on Tuesday, and welcome Ohio Wesleyan for four games on Saturday and Monday. RYAN FARR — Kentucky Christian University (So., Adairsville HS) … pitched two scoreless relief innings last Saturday in a 10-4 home loss to Indiana University-Kokomo. Farr issued one walk and had one strikeout. The Knights (5-7, 1-2 River States Conference) play a three-game series on Friday and Saturday at West Virginia University Tech. MADDOX FRAZIER — Southern Union State CC (Fr., Cartersville HS) … faced two batters and retired the final out in the seventh inning of a 6-5 win on February 24 at Gordon State College in Barnesville. The Wolves lost 4-3 to 7th-ranked Auburn and dropped all three games of a series at USA in Mobile. UWG (1-11) has a four-game series on Friday through Sunday at Wichita State University (KS).  KADEN STEPHENSON — Oglethorpe University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … in four home starts last week against Piedmont University on February 24 and three games with Greensboro College over the weekend, Stephenson was 4-for-14 with one home run, one triple, two doubles, four runs scored, four walks, one stolen base, and six RBI. The Stormy Petrels lost to Piedmont, but swept three games with Greensboro College. Oglethorpe (4-3) visits Emory University on Tuesday, plays at LaGrange College on Friday and Saturday, and hosts the Panthers on Sunday. DAVIS WILLIAMS — University of West Georgia (R-Jr., Cartersville HS) … made a pair of pitching appearances last week, with each covering two-thirds of an inning. At Auburn on February 25, he faced four batters and allowed no runs on two hits. At the University of South Alabama this past Sunday, he walked two batters and hit one batter, but escaped the appearance with no runs and no hits. UWG (1-11) plays a four-game series at Wichita State University this weekend. SAWYER WILSON — Columbus State University (So., Cartersville HS) … made a seven-inning, complete-game start last Saturday and shut out Ohio Dominican University 19-0. He allowed just two hits, issued two walks, and struck out six. The Cougars swept ODU in a three-game series and improved to 8-7 on the season. ADAIRSVILLE 6, MURRAY COUNTY 0 The Tigers broke a scoreless tie with a go-ahead run in the top of the fifth, then put the game away with five runs in the sixth inning in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader in Chatsworth. Adairsville starting pitcher Hudson Parr tossed six shutout innings and struck out 14 to earn the mound victory. He yielded just two hits and issued no walks. McCayden Hufstetler struck out two to close out the shutout in the seventh. Harrison Cole and Westin Barfield (double) each had two hits. Brody Varner (two RBI), Parr (two RBI), Bryson Weaver (triple), Matthew Cook, Evan Hardin, and Braden Slocumb (RBI) added one hit each. ADAIRSVILLE 10, MURRAY COUNTY 8 The Tigers scored five runs in the third inning and five more in the fifth on Saturday, then held on to win the second game of a doubleheader at Murray County, 10-8. Harrison Cole led the Adairsville offense with three hits, including a grand slam home run and five RBI. Evan Hardin and McCayden Hufstetler each contributed two hits. Westin Barfield (two RBI), Braden Slocumb (RBI), and Kaden Coker produced one hit. Matthew Cook and Tyler Parker each added one RBI. Hardin (1.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 3K) collected the Tigers’ pitching win in relief of starter Tyler Parker (2.1 IP, 4ER, 4H, 1BB, 2K). Cole (0.2 IP, 4ER, 2H, 3BB) and Coker (2.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 3K) also pitched in relief. The two losses on Saturday left Murray County at 7-3. Adairsville (8-2) begins Region 7-AAA play on Tuesday at Calhoun. The Tigers will host the Yellow Jackets on Thursday and play the third game of the region series at Cahoun on Friday. All three games are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. HILLGROVE 9, CARTERSVILLE 4 Hillgrove took advantage of four hit batters and two walks in the top of the sixth inning on Saturday afternoon to score six runs and come-from-behind to defeat Cartersville 9-4 in a game played at Carrollton High School. The Canes led 4-3 through five innings, and the two teams both finished with seven hits. Wyatt Earwood (1.2 IP, 5ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for the Hurricanes in relief of starter Nolan Elrod (4 IP, 3R, 1ER, 4H, 3BB, 8K). Logan Buchanan (0.0 IP, 1ER, 1H, 2BB) and J.B. Nichols (1.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2BB, 2K) also pitched in relief for Cartersville.  David Vargas led the Canes’ bats with two hits and one RBI. Tyler Hickman (double, two RBI), Cole Crawford (double, RBI), Clint Hosea, James Manring, and Elrod each added one hit. CARROLLTON 10, CARTERSVILLE 4 The host Trojans built a 6-1 lead through four innings and finished off a 10-4 win Saturday over Cartersville. Carrollton pitchers Carson Heath, Caden Opperman, and Kolton Messer limited the Canes to six hits and combined for 10 strikeouts. Cartersville utilized six pitchers with starter Brayden Logan (2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 3BB, 1K) tagged with the loss. Coleman Stubblefield (1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 1K), Cole Crawford (1 IP, 2ER, 1H, 1BB, 2K), Tyler Hickman (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 3K), Gianni Gandy (0.1 IP, 4R, 3ER, 2H, 1BB), and Wyatt Earwood (0.2 IP, 0R, 1H) all worked short stints on the mound. Nolan Elrod and Brayden Logan had two hits for the Canes. Brant Rutledge (two RBI) and David Vargas contributed one hit for Cartersville. Carrollton improved to 5-5. Cartersville (2-7) will look to snap a seven-game skid when the Canes open play in Region 7-AAAA on Tuesday at home against Allatoona.  The three-game region series continues on Friday with a doubleheader on the Buccaneers' home field, starting at 5 p.m.
