'Canes in region finals; will host state playoff

The Cartersville boys basketball team earned a spot in the Region 7-AAAA championship game and the right to host a first round state tournament game with a 52-37 victory over Northwest Whitfield Friday (Feb. 13) in Dalton. The 'Canes will host a team from Region 8-AAAA Wednesday (Feb. 18) in the opening round of the state tournament. The opponent will be either Monroe Area or North Hall. First, however, the Hurricanes will play for a region championship Saturday night (Feb. 14). The region title game is at Southeast Whitfield at 7:30pm. Cartersville will meet the winner of Friday's other semifinal that pitted top seed Heritage-Catoosa against host Southeast Whitfield. (results not available at press time, to be updated later.)
