Jett, Cochran win state wrestling titles

Tyjuan Jett of Cass and Cody Cochran of Woodland each won their respective weight class state championships Saturday at the Class AAAAA state tournament at Macon Coliseum. Jett is the 2015 heavyweight champion and Cochran won the 145-pound classification. Cochran wrapped up a 47-5 season and his state title by winning an 8-5 decision over Will Britain of Cambridge.

Jett, (shown in photo) who finished his season with a 39-2 record, won his championship match in sudden victory over Caleb Branham of Richmond HIll. Branham's season concluded with a 42-2 mark. In the team results, Woodland finished runner-up to Camden County. Cass placed eighth. Woodland had five other wrestlers to place at the state tournament. Dawson Woods (3rd-106), Jahvar Lewis (2nd-113), Logan Sims (3rd-120), Jake Huffine (5th-126), and Spencer Cooper (2nd-138) all placed. Hunter Quinn (4th-132) and Montavious Turner (5th-138) were additional placers for Cass. Adairsville's Salavador Grimaldo wrapped up a 41-3 season record and won third place in Class AAA with a major decision over Truett Bowman of Rockmart.
