Cartersville's Anna Hightower wins state pole vault

Anna Hightower of Cartersville High School won the 2015 Girls Class AAAA state pole vault title today (May 7) with a winning vault of 11 feet, 7 inches. Her vault not only bested runner up, Bria Caesar, of Marist who cleared 10 feet, but established a new state record.

Anne Marie Simoneaux, also from Marist, and Sydney Holmes of Chamlee tied for third with vaults of 9 feet, 6 inches. In other action at the Girls Georgia Olympics, Adairsville High School had two competitors in the Class AAA State finals. Emily Sexauer placed tenth in the 3200 meter run and Josie Summerville placed 15th in the shot put. The 2015 Girls State Track and Field Championships continue through Saturday, May 9 at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.
