Wayne County forces a deciding game with Cartersville

The Class 4A, best-of-three state quarterfinal series between Cartersville and Wayne County will be settled in a rubber game on Thursday, May 14 after the two teams split a Wednesday doubleheader in Jesup. The series deciding game will also be hosted by Wayne County.

Cartersville won the opener in commanding fashion, 12-1, but the host Yellow Jackets returned the favor in Game 2 with a resounding 14-2 defeat of the ‘Canes.

Wayne County, the host team playing as visitors in Game 2, sent thirteen men to the plate in the top of the second and scored nine runs on six hits, four walks, and an error.

Wayne County cushioned their lead with a five run fifth that gave them a 14-2 lead.

Carrington Evans' 2-run homer in bottom of fourth inning accounted for the only Cartersville runs.

The starting time for Game 3 was decided by the Georgia High School Association after the two schools could not agree. Thursday's game is now scheduled for 4:30pm. The winner of the Cartersville/Wayne County series will host Buford in the state semifinals May 18 (doubleheader) and May 19 (if needed).

AM 1450 WBHF will broadcast the game live on Thursday. LINK TO BROADCAST See Also: Jason Greenberg's related story in The Daily Tribune News. See Also: WSAV Sports video highlights
