Former Woodland High School softball star, Ainsley Faulk, and her Auburn University at Montgomery softball teammates open play in the NAIA Softball World Series this weekend. The 35th annual national championship tournament continues through May 28 at the Jensen Softball Complex in Sioux City, Iowa.

Faulk, a 5-foot senior outfielder, is a left-handed hitter and a 4-time All-County selection during her high school playing days with the Lady Wildcats.

AUM is the No. 2 seed and received an opening round bye. The Warhawks open play at the NAIA World Series Saturday, May 23 facing Oregon Tech.

Auburn-Montgomery was ranked No. 1 in the nation preseason after winning the 2014 NAIA national championship. The ’14 Warhawks finished 44-7 on their way to the title.

AUM has spent most of the 2015 season ranked second in the nation behind Oklahoma City University. The Stars of OCU are the top seed in Sioux City.

Faulk hit .322 as a junior and drew a pair of walks in last year’s national championship game victory over William Carey University. This season, she has played in 38 games, started 26, and carries a .313 batting average into the World Series.

AUM won an NAIA opening round regional they hosted in Montgomery May 11-13 to earn a spot in the World Series. The Warhawks defeated Tennessee Wesleyan and Davenport (Mich.) twice. Each regional victory was by a shutout score.

Faulk is the daughter of Havon and Kim Faulk of Taylorsville.
