A pair of local baseball players, Elliott Anderson (Cartersville HS) and Lane Griffith (Adairsville HS), are in Oklahoma with the Georgia Dugout Club’s 2015 Junior Team Georgia. The team is participating in the 21st annual Sunbelt Classic Baseball Series.

The tournament began Friday and continues through next Wednesday (June 10) in McAlester, Oklahoma and at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. Former Cass High School head coach, Todd Eubanks, is part of the Team Georgia coaching staff with the Georgia Dugout Club. He is currently the head baseball coach at Bowdon High School.

Junior Team Georgia defeated Team Canada 9-8 in their second game of the day Friday, but dropped their opener to Team Tennessee, 16-3.

Griffith caught in the opener against Team Tennessee and recorded six putouts. He was 0-for-2 at the plate batting seventh in the Team Georgia order.

Anderson entered the opener in the fifth inning. He pitched and later moved to left field in the sixth. He was tagged with the pitching loss. Tennessee rapped out 14 hits in the contest and took advantage of seven walks for their one-sided win.

In their victory over Team Canada, the Georgia team scored twice in the bottom of the final frame to escape with a one-run, come-from-behind win.

Canada out-hit Georgia 14 to 11, but a solo homerun by Anthony Carrea tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. Grayson Harbin then walked, eventually advanced to third, and scored the game winning run on a wild pitch.

Anderson was 2-for-3 against Team Canada and also reached on a base on balls.
