8U Cartersville LL topped by Smyrna, 9-7


Cartersville Little League’s 8-and-under tournament team lost 9-7 to Smyrna Wednesday night (June 10) in the championship game of the 2015 Georgia Little League Northwest Sectional. The tournament was played at Smyrna Little League and the title game was a rematch of two team that met earlier in the event. Cartersville won the first meeting, 17-13. In the championship game, Cartersville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Tristan McKibbon singled and later scored on a hit by Logan Shrewsbury, but Smyrna answered with three runs of their own in the first and another run in the second to go up 4-1. Eight walks and a single in each inning did the opening damage for Smyrna.

The locals added a run in the third with an RBI from Sawyer Wilson, but Smyrna jumped to a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the frame. Three more walks and a pair of hit batsmen led to Smyrna’s runs without benefit of a hit. Smyrna took a 9-4 lead to the final inning when Cartersville made one last charge. The 8U Canes had four hits in the inning and scored three times, but it was not enough. Cameron Cochran tripled to lead off the sixth. He scored on an RBI groundout by Julian Cline. Logan Woody then singled and advanced to third on a JeKeveon Porter double. Tristan Mckibben added an RBI hit that led to the final Cartersville runs. Cartersville out hit Smyrna 11-4, but Smyrna took advantage of 16 walks issued by Cartersville pitchers. The Cartersville roster includes: Jordan Brinkley, Maddox Frazier, Casen Cochran, Cameron Cochran, Logan Shrewsbury, Logan Woody, JeKeveon Porter. Tristan Mckibben, Thomas Peters, Sawyer Wilson, and Julian Cline.


Cartersville’s manager is Robin Mckibben and the assisting coaches are Luke Bunce, Geoffe Shrewsbury, and Jay Frazier.
