Cartersville 10U teams remain undefeated at district tourney


Cartersville Little League 10U Purple needed only four innings Sunday (June 28) to dispatch Rockmart, 16-0 and Cartersville Little League 10U Gold won a back-and-forth struggle with Rome, 16-15.


The wins by the two Cartersville teams mean they will play for the district title after pool play is complete.


Cartersville Little League is hosting the District 1 Little League tournament at Joe Frank Harris Field and Rudy York Field in Atco.


Cartersville Purple collected a dozen hits and got shutout pitching from Paul Gamble (3IP, 1H, 1BB, 5K) and Hunter Kelly (1IP, 1H) for the mercy, run-rule win. With the victory, Cartersville Purple moves to 2-0 in pool play. Rockmart fell to 0-2. Drake Carver was 2-for-3 with a walk, a 3-run homer, 4 RBI, and 3 runs scored to lead the Purple offense. His homerun came in the top of the fourth inning. Trip Bradley (2 RBI, 2R), Avery Higgins (2 RBI, 2R, double), and Isaac McNair-Seigler (2 RBI, 1R) also had two hits each. JaKiyon Porter, Thomas Norris, Will Litton, and Nicholas Kennedy had the other Cartersville Purple hits in their 12-hit attack.


Cartersville Purple also took advantage of seven walks and three Rockmart errors. Cartersville Little League 10U Gold won a high scoring affair with Rome Sunday to also remain unbeaten in pool play. Cartersville Gold scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to rally for a come-from-behind 16-15 win. The game winning run came on a bases loaded walk to Collin Genrich.


The two teams combined for 17 hits and traded the lead 12 times in the six inning game. Rome used six different pitchers in the contest and failed to record an out in the bottom of the sixth when Cartersville Gold rallied for the win.


Cartersville Gold pitchers included Jack Chatman (3 BB, 0 ER), Knox Neal (2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K), Carson Horn (3 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K), and Kaden Stephenson (1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K). Joshua Clay (3 RBI, 2 R, SB), Jordan Hall (1 R), and Chatman (1 R) had two hits each for Cartersville Gold. Brody Tidwell (RBI, 3 R), Cole Jackson (RBI, 1 R), Gabriel Cox, and Neal (2 RBI, 3 R, 3 SB) had one hit apiece. Silas Freeman walked twice, scored a pair of runs, and stole 3 bases.


Next for Cartersville Purple (2-0) and Cartersville Gold (2-0) is a matchup with one another at 8:30pm on Joe Frank Harris Field. It will be both teams’ final pool play contest before they square off again in the District 1, best-of-three championship series that begins Tuesday night.
