Cartersville Purple wins District 1 Little League championship


Cartersville Little League 10U Purple rolled up 17 runs in a two inning span Thursday night (July 2) on their way to a 20-6 win and the Georgia Little League District 1 title.


Nine Cartersville Purple players combined for 14 hits and five walks in the victory.


Cartersville Purple took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and pushed it to 12-0 in the third. After Cartersville Gold put up three runs in the bottom of the third, Purple responded with eight more. Gold rallied for three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but that was as close as they would come. The game ended via run-rule. Drake Carver led the Purple offense. He was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk and 3 runs scored. Carver had a double and a triple among his hits. Paul Gamble was 2-for-2 for Cartersville Purple with a pair of RBI and four runs scored. Hunter Kelly and Avery Higgins also had a pair of hits and two RBI apiece. JaKiyon Porter, Isaac McNair-Seigler (RBI), Trip Bradley, A.J. Christina, and NIck Kennedy added the other Cartersville Purple hits. Gamble (3.1 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 5 K) earned the pitching victory for Cartersville Purple. McNair-Seigler (0.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 BB) recorded the final two outs of the game in the bottom of the fourth.


Joshua Clay had a double and a triple with 2 RBI in a 2-for-3 performance for Cartersville Gold. Gabe Cox also went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kaden Stephenson , Silas Freeman , and Jordan Hall had the remaining Cartersville Gold hits. The two Cartersville teams finished first and second during pool play of the district tournament qualifying the two to square off in a best-of-three series for the title. Cartersville Purple won the series, 2-0.


Cartersville Purple 10U, now District 1 Little League champions, advance to the Georgia Little League 9/10 state tournament that begins July 11 at Midway Little League in Decatur.
