Bartow 14 year old Dizzy Dean team forces winner-take-all state title game


The Bartow County 14 year old Dizzy Dean all stars reached a winner-take-all state championship game. Bartow survived a pair of elimination games Wednesday night with a 12-6 victory over Summerville and a victory over Whitfield County.


It was the first loss in the state tournament for Whitfield County who had previously beaten Bartow. Both teams now have one loss and will meet in a final championship round game Thursday (July 9) at Hobgood Park in Woodstock. The game is scheduled for 5:30pm.


Details from the first championship round game Wednesday night were not available at the publishing time of this article. Bartow Sports Zone will report on that game later.


In the earlier elimination game over Summerville, Bartow scored four runs in the first inning and four more in the seventh frame to do the bulk of their damage. B. J. Roper was the starting pitcher for Bartow County. He tossed four innings, allowed four runs, and struck out three. Bryson Markley pitched the fifth and struck out a pair. Connor Gallagher tossed the sixth inning and recorded one strikeout, and Landon Ayers worked the final inning and had one strike out.


Bartow was led at the plate by Austin Baker, Cody Parramore and Markley with a pair of hits each.


Toby Queen, B. J. Roper, Kaleb Chance, and Gallagher each added a hit.
