Cartersville Purple 10U cruises to state GRPA tourney opener win


Cartersville Purple 10U opened the 2015 Georgia Recreation and Parks Association state tournament Wednesday with a four-inning, 14-0 win over the Savannah Hot Rods.


The 10 and under state tournament is being hosted by Savannah and Paulson Park.


Cartersville Purple 10U scored six runs in the bottom of the first, four in the second, and four more in the third to complete the rout.


Paul Gamble (1.2 IP, 2 H, 4 K) and Drake Carver (2.1 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 K) combined their pitching efforts to complete the four inning shutout.


Cartersville’s offense out hit Savannah 14-2 in the contest.


Isaac McNair-Seigler (3 RBI), Carver (double, triple, RBI), Hunter Kelly (double) , and A.J. Christina (2 RBI) had two hits each.


Will Litton (triple, 2 RBI), Nicholas Kennedy (RBI), Trip Bradley (RBI), and JaKiyon Porter added the other Cartersville Purple hits.


Cartersville Purple 10U plays Sumter County Thursday (July 9) at 6pm at Paulson Park in Savannah.


In other action, Cartersville 10U Gray was edged by Savannah Thunder 8-6 and was scheduled to play Long County in an elimination game late Wednesday. The 10U GRPA state tournament continues in Savannah through Saturday, July 11.
