Bartow 14 year old Dizzy Dean baseball team is 2015 state runner-up
The Bartow County 14 year old Dizzy Dean all star team went toe-to-toe with Whitfield County for three games during the 2015 Dizzy Dean Sophomore State Tournament, but fell in a final winner-take-all final, 8-5.
The tournament was played July 3-9 at Hobgood Park in Cherokee County.
Jacob Cody, Parker Hardin, Bryson Markley, and Toby Queen had two hits each for Bartow in the championship game.
Bartow used a trio of pitchers.
Markley tossed 3 innings striking out three. Hardin worked 2 and 2/3 innings and struck out three. Connor Gallagher pitched an inning and a third and struck out three.
Bartow had tournament wins over Hunter Park, Fannin County, and Summerville prior to the eventual champion, Whitfield County.
Bartow then defeated Summerville for a second time in an elimination game to reach the championship round.
Bartow needed to knock off Whitfield County twice in the finals of the double elimination event and was successful with a win Wednesday night (July 8), but Whitifleld took the final game on Thursday.
