Fields leads Rhodes to NCAA regional; collegiate updates for locals in XC, soccer, and volleyball

SOCCER

STEPHANIE HICKS — Agnes Scott College (Sr., F, Woodland HS) … was a starting forward and took a pair of shots, one shot on goal, in a 3-2 victory over Wesleyan (GA) College. The Scotties are now 8-9 on the season and 2-2 in the Great South Atletic Conference. Agnes Scott will host a conference playoff game Friday.


EMILY MOORE — Charleston Southern University (Jr., D, Woodland HS)… appeared in both of the Lady Bucs’ losses this past week to Coastal Carolina. The 3-0 loss Oct. 27 was the regular season finale’ and the 5-0 loss Sunday eliminated Charleston Southern from the Big South Tournament. Moore played in 16 of 18 games with five starts. She took 3 shots from her defender position with one shot on goal. CSU finished 7-9-2 on the season and 4-6 in Big South Conference play.




VOLLEYBALL


KARLEE WINECOFF — Point University (OH/MH, Jr., Cass HS) … played in all three sets, had two kills, two digs, and a block in a four set loss at Truett-McConnell College. The Skyhawks fell to 4-19 overall and 3-16 in the NAIA Appalachian Athletic Conference. Point has road matches at Tennessee Wesley Tuesday and Brewton-Parker College Thursday.


KATIE O’CONNOR — Western Carolina (MB, Soph., Cartersville HS) … appeared in all five sets, accumulated 16 kills, a dig, and five blocks in a win at The Citadel. Played in all four sets of a loss at Furman where she added four kills, a dig, and a block. The Lady Catamounts have home conference matches this week against Mercer, Samford, and Chattanooga prior to the Southern Conference Tournament beginning Nov. 21. WCU is 10-19 overall and 4-9 in conference play.



CROSS COUNTRY

SPENCER FIELDS — Rhodes College (Fr., Kingston, GA, Darlington HS) … led the Lynx to their first Southern Athletic Association Championship last weekend in Danville, KY. Fields finished in the top three with a time of 26:46 in the 8k run. He was also named SAA Newcomer of the Year. The Lynx will now advance to the NCAA Division III South Atlantic Regionals set for November 14 in Winchester, VA.


ROGER HERRERA — Reinhardt University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … has been one of the top scoring runners for the Eagles all season. He will help lead Reinhardt at the Appalachian Athletic Conference championship meet Saturday, Nov. 7.
