BCRD 12u football wins state title

The Bartow Country Recreation Department 12U all-star football team shutout Columbia County 27-0 Saturday afternoon in Dalton to win the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) state championship.

The Bartow defense limited Columbia County to only two first downs in the game.

Bartow scored one touchdown in each quarter and converted PAT runs on three of the four scores.

Emmanuel Hayes scored on a 63 yard touchdown run and caught two touchdown passes from quarterback, Andrew Nguyen, to lead the Bartow offense.

Nguyen’s touchdown tosses were from 24 and 13 yards.

Hayes finished with 69 yards rushing and 37 yards in receptions. Nguyen also rushed for 36 yards.

Jordan Carson scored the other Bartow touchdown on a two-yard run and finished with 21 rushing yards. Thomas Knight, Santino Jones, and Keylan McCarty added the extra point runs.

Knight totaled 55 yards rushing. Ja’Quaylan Mayhall added 25 yards rushing and Jones had 11 yards on the ground.

Knight had 11 tackles for the Bartow defense. Other Bartow tackle leaders included Hayes with 5, Devin Pryer 4, Chris Green 2 McCarty 2, Jones 2, Carson and Jimbo Gaines added one tackle each.
