Red Bud Middle girls, Cartersville Middle boys lead BGMSAA heading into the Christmas break

The 2015 Bartow-Gordon Middle School Athletic Association basketball season reached the Christmas holiday break with the conclusion of games Thursday night (Dec. 17).

Most teams in the four divisions have only four or five regular season games remaining once we enter 2016. The BGMSAA Championship Basketball Tournaments begin January 23. Seeding for that tournament is based on regular season standings and results.

Red Bud girls are undefeated heading into the break with a perfect 10-0 record. The Lady Phoenix hold a three game edge over Calhoun (7-3) and a 3.5 game lead over both Cartersville (6-3) and Cass (6-3).

The Red Bud girls swept a home-and-home series with Cass already and have Calhoun at home and a game at Cartersville in their four remaining regular season games.

The Red Bud girls also lead the middle school junior varsity division with an 8-0 record. They are one game ahead of Calhoun and two games ahead of Cartersville in the standings.

The Cartersville boys are 9-0 and leading the BGMSAA. The Canes routed second place Adairsville in both teams' season opening game, 51-14. Adairsville has not lost since and takes a 7-1 record into the break. Calhoun (7-3) and Cass (6-3) are next in the boys' division. The Cartersville/Adairsville regular season rematch is January 11.

In the boys' junior varsity division, Cartersville is 7-0 with Calhoun right behind at 7-1. Cartersville JV handed Calhoun JV their only loss December 7, 36-30. The regular season rematch will be on the final date of the regular season, January 21.

You can review all the results and standings for the season on the BGMSAA Winter Sports page. You will also find the remaining schedule for BGMSAA basketball.

The BGMSAA Championship Tournaments will all be held at Calhoun High School and Calhoun Middle School January 23-30.
