Gulledge inducted into Georgia Northwest Bowl Hall of Fame


This past weekend while several local football seniors were participating in the third Georgia Northwest Bowl football all-star game, former player, coach, and athletic director Johnny Gulledge, was inducted into the Georgia Northwest Bowl Hall of Fame.


Gulledge, an Adairsville High School graduate, coached at Bremen, Calhoun, and Adairsville during his career and was an athletic director at Calhoun and Adairsville plus served as a system athletic director for Bartow County.

JOHNNY GULLEDGE

CALHOUN — Head football coach, Head girls basketball coach

  • Girls basketball teams were 75-35

  • Girls basketball 27-0 regular season during 1988-89 regular season

  • Football, first region title in 32 years

  • Football state playoffs — 1991, 1995, and 1996

  • Football Sweet 16

ADAIRSVILLE — Head football coach

  • Two region titles

  • Twice region runner-up

  • 2001 AJC Class A Coach of the Year

  • Sent players to: Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Carson-Newman, Shorter University, Appalachian State, Georgia, Furman, Ole Miss, Georgia Southern, Mars Hill, and University of West Georgia.

  • Coach Vic Beasley, Jr., NFL first round pick of Atlanta Falcons

  • Of the 8 AHS football region championships, Gulledge has been a part of six as either a player or coach.

ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

  • AD at Calhoun, Adairsville, and System AD for Bartow County School System

  • Three time AD of the Year by the Georgia Athletic Directors Association

  • Passed the National Coaching exam

  • Passed the National Athletic Directors exam

  • Implemented the first mandatory drug testing in athletics in north Georgia public schools

PERSONAL

  • Married to TaRahma for 41 years

  • Three sons: Chancey, Chantry, and Caylin

  • Granddaughters: Maddie Beth, Nora Kate and Everleigh

  • Loves to hunt

HIGH SCHOOL

  • Graduate of Adairsville HS

  • Four region championships

  • Three North Georgia Championships

  • All-State QB in 1973

  • #10 jersey has been retired

  • Also played basketball and baseball

COLLEGE

  • Graduate of Mars Hill College

  • Four year defensive starter and letterman

  • Two time All-District

  • Two time All-Conference

  • 1980 Kodak 1st Team NAIA All-American

  • Mars Hill College MVP and Male Athlete of the Year

  • Mars Hill College Presidential Award winner

  • 1992 inducted into the Mars Hill College Hall of Fame

COACHING — Bremen, Calhoun, and Adairsville HSs

  • Taught Geography, Economics, GA History, and U.S. History

  • Over 100 career football wins

  • 75 career girls basketball wins

  • Numerous former players are current HS and collegiate coaches

  • Coached football, basketball, and head baseball coach at Bremen

  • Won first sub-region championship in baseball at Bremen

  • Defensive Coordinator for Bremen football region champions
