Chargers split pair of games Saturday

Brandon Bell went two-for-four, sparking Chargers to a 3-0 victory in seven innings over Lincoln Trail CC on Saturday at LakePoint in Emerson.

Bell singled in the third and fifth innings. Bryan Quillens got the win for Chargers thanks to six strikeouts. The Chargers' pitcher tossed five innings of shutout ball and allowed only three hits.

Konner Eck was charged with the pitching loss for Lincoln Trail. He lasted just 4 1/3 innings, walked five, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

GHC closer Will Griffin put away the final six outs to record the save.

The Chargers scored three times in the fifth inning on a pair of singles.

Earlier in the day, Georgia Highlands lost to St. Louis (MO) CC, 3-1.

St. Louis scored in the top of the first and added two more runs in the sixth to take a 3-0 advantage. Highlands scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh on a Zach McCrum homer.

Drew Davis managed the Chargers only other hit off St. Louis pitcher Jordan Yakel who tossed a complete-game with three strikeouts and did not issue a walk.

McCrum (4 IP, 2H, 1ER, 2BB, 5K) suffered the pitching loss for Georgia Highlands.

With Saturday’s split of two games, the Chargers’ season record now stands at 7-5. They host St. Louis CC again Sunday at LakePoint in Emerson. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
