Johns Creek tops Canes, 6-3


Cartersville and Johns Creek went to the sixth inning Saturday knotted 1-1 when the Gladiators struck for five runs. Johns Creek then held off a Cartersville rally in the final inning to defeat the Hurricanes, 6-3, at Richard Bell Field.


Trevor Lowe was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and later scored on a wild pitch for Cartersville’s run in the fifth.


The Canes scored twice in the bottom of the seventh. Carrington Evans scored on Jacob Fowler’s single. Fowler then scored on an RBI double by Zach Yancey.


Both teams finished the contest with eight hits.


Parker Tidwell and Fowler had two hits each for the Canes. Anthony Seigler, Evans, Yancey, and Lowe had the other Cartersville base hits.


Jonothan Horan (6 IP, 8H, 3R, 1ER, 0BB, 5K) was the winning pitcher for the Gladiators. Cole Neuber had a three-hit performance at the plate for Johns Creek. Hunter Lee had two RBI.


Seigler (4.1 IP, 5H, 3R, 2ER, 0BB, 4K) suffered the pitching loss for the Canes. Mason Barnett struck out two and walked one in a scoreless inning of relief. Yancey (1.2 IP, 3H, 3ER, 0BB, 2K) also pitched for Cartersville.


With the win, Johns Creek is now 1-3 on the season. Cartersville falls to 0-2.


Next for the Canes is a matchup with Parkview Tuesday (Mar 1, 5:55pm) at Richard Bell Field. Cartersville then will battle Coosa at State Mutual Stadium in Rome on Saturday (Mar 5, 6pm).
