Spell drives in four as Colonels defeat Creekview, 5-4


Steven Spell drove home the go-ahead run and totaled four RBI on the night as Cass defeated Creekview 5-4 in a sub-region matchup in 7-AAAAA-A.


The Cass victory evened the series at one game each. The two teams meet again Friday at Cass.


With the score knotted at 3-3 in the top of the seventh, Spell single to drive home Evan Hinton and Casey Patterson.


The Grizzlies scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by #32 that scored #23 Potts, but Cass pitcher Jordan Reed got out of the inning with a fly ball to end threat and secure the one run win.


Cass (2-2 overall, 1-1 in sub-region) scored three times in the top of the first after two outs. Spell drove home Casey Patterson and Reed with a single to left. Nathan Smith drove in the other run with a ground ball single to left.

Reed (2 IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 2BB, 1K) picked up the pitching victory in relief of Hinton (5 IP, 5H, 3R, 1ER, 3BB, 3K).


Spell’s two-hit, four-RBI performance led the Colonels’ offense. Nathan Smith had a hit and RBI. Bailey Campbell and Patterson had the other Cass hits.


Cass hosts Creekview Friday at 5:55pm and plays Monday and Wednesday at LakePoint in Emerson. The Colonels play Norfolk Academy (VA) Monday (Mar 7) at 5:30pm and will face Ooltewah (TN) at 5:30pm on Wednesday (Mar 9).
