Canes shutout in quarterfinal game at PG Showdown



After winning their first round game Thursday night in the Perfect Game High School Showdown at LakePoint in Emerson, the Cartersville Hurricanes were shutout by Gulliver Prep of Miami, FL in the tournament quarterfinals, 6-0.


Cartersville defeated Montverde (FL) Academy, 8-2, in the first round earlier Thursday evening. Auburn commit, Elliott Anderson (4 IP, 7H, 6ER, 4BB, 4K), suffered the pitching loss for Cartersville.


Gulliver Prep took a 4-0 lead after two innings and added two more in the fourth inning.


Adrian Del Castillo and Javier Valdes hit a homeruns for the Raiders in the first two innings.


Javier Valdes (6 IP, 4H, 0R, 1BB, 10K) was the winning pitcher for Gulliver Prep.


The Canes managed only four hits. One each from Anderson, Cole Jamieson, Zach Yancey, and Trevor Lowe.


Cartersville (2-4) will play Friday at 6pm in a consolation game against McEachern. Gulliver Prep advances to Friday’s semifinals where the Raiders will face Oxford (MS) High School.
