Canes win opener of PG High School Showdown


Cartersville baseball trailed Montverde (FL) Academy Thursday afternoon 2-0 heading to the fifth inning, but the Purple Hurricanes responded with eight runs over the final three frames to take an 8-2 opening round win at the Perfect Game High School Showdown at LakePoint in Emerson.


The nationally recognized high school baseball tournament, features several of the top ranked teams from around the country. The event continues through Saturday.


Anthony Seigler pitched a complete game for Cartersville, scattering six hits. He allowed only one earned run, three walks, and struck out six batters.


Seigler also got the job done at the plate. He walked twice, scored twice, and added a base hit.


Noah Daniel had three hits for the Canes. Elliott Anderson and Zach Yancey both doubled and drove in two runs. Cole Jamieson had a hit and two RBI. Carrington Evans, Parker Roberson (RBI), and Trevor Lowe each added a hit. Parker Tidwell walked three times, scored a run, and contributed one RBI. Thomas Watkins scored a run.


With the opening round win, Cartersville advanced to play a second game Thursday night against Gulliver Prep. The Raiders from Miami, FL, defeated Mountain View (Ga.) in a first round game Thursday, 6-2.


The Cartersville/Gulliver Prep winner advances to the tournament semifinals Friday at 6pm against Oxford (MS). The loser will play in a consolation game Friday at 6pm against McEachern.
