Georgia Highlands splits pair with Central Alabama CC


Zach McCrum went 2-for-3 and hit a home run as the Chargers earned a doubleheader split with Central Alabama CC Friday night at LakePoint in Emerson.


McCrum singled in the third inning and homered in the fifth.


Tristan Roberts (5 IP, 0R, 3H, 6BB, 2K) picked up the pitching victory for the Chargers. Tanner Thomson (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 5K) also pitched for GHC.


Georgia Highlands scored twice in the bottom of the first and added three insurance runs in the fifth.


Trenton Nutter walked, Brandon Etheridge singled, and McCrum was hit by a pitch to load the bases in the first inning. Devin Bilardello drove in one run with a single and Clint Tonini coaxed a bases loaded walk for the Chargers’ second run.


In the fifth, Etheridge doubled and stole third before McCrum and Daniel Gooden homered back-to-back.


Central Alabama CC won the first game, 5-2.


Trevor Bates had three hits and drove home a pair of runs for CACC. Nathan Langley and Chris Cusimano had two hits each.


John Michael Stephens (5.2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 5H, 1BB, 2K) earned the pitching win. Garrett Brown was awarded a save by recording the final four outs with one walk and a pair of strikeouts.


Daniel Gooden (4 IP, 5H, 4R, 0ER, 2BB, 6K) was saddled with the pitching loss even though he did not yield an earned run.


Etheridge, Bilardello, Brandon Bell, Drew Davis, Jonathan White had one hit each for the Chargers.


GHC now has a 15-11 record. The Chargers play Triton College and Jefferson College Saturday at LakePoint. First pitch for the twinbill is set for 2:30pm.
