Georgia Highlands drops pair on Saturday


In their final tune-up weekend of non-conference play, the Georgia Highlands Chargers lost games to Triton (IL) CC 9-4 and Jefferson College (MO) 2-0 at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson.


The Chargers had split a doubleheader with Central Alabama CC on Friday at LakePoint.


In the loss to Triton, the Chargers actually out hit the Trojans, 7-6.


Nick Fink had two RBI on three hits for Georgia Highlands. Fink doubled in the third inning and singled in the first and fifth frames.


Triton scored eight runs through the first two innings and kept the Chargers from gaining any momentum throughout.


Brandon Bell, Brandon Etheridge, Zach McCrum, and Tristan Roberts had the other Chargers’ hits.


GHC starting pitcher, Casey Collins (1.1 IP, 8R, 5ER, 4H, 4BB), was saddled with the loss. Sean Wilson (4.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 1BB, 5K) pitched in relief for the Chargers.


In the nightcap, Jefferson College scored runs in the first and fourth innings playing as the home team as part of Perfect Game’s Spring Swing.


Anthony Herron (7.1 IP, 4H, 0R, 3BB, 13K) was stellar on the mound for the Vikings and earned the pitching win. Mitch Plassmeyer worked the final inning and 1/3 for a save, walking one and striking out two.


Etheridge had two hits for the Chargers. McCrum, Mitch Burger, Jonathan White, and Andrew Cooley had the other GHC hits.


Georgia Highlands (15-13) begins play in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Tuesday with a four game series during the week against Darton College. Game 1 of the series is at 5:30pm, then the Chargers travel to Albany for a single game Friday night at 6pm and a doubleheader on Saturday that begins at 2pm.
