Colonels lose at Dalton

Dalton’s eight-run second inning was enough to put visiting Cass away early Monday night in the first game of a three-game sub-region series.

Dalton went on to defeat the Colonels, 14-2, in five innings.

Cole Shelton (5 IP, 2R, 0ER, 3H, 1BB, 6K) was the complete game winner for the Catamounts.

Cass pitcher, Austin Pruett, took the loss lasting only 1-1/3 innings. He walked two, struck out two, and allowed four runs.

The Catamounts took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but it was three singles, a double, and five walks that led to Dalton’s second inning barrage that put the game away.

Dalton added four more runs in the third inning and one in the fourth.

The Colonels managed only three hits, scoring single runs in the third and fifth innings.

Bailey Campbell, Steven Spell, and Casey Patterson had the Cass hits. Campbell and Jake Collum had one RBI each.

J.P. Tighe, Shelton, and Sam Stepp combined for nine hits and ten RBI to lead the Catamounts’ offense.

Dalton (10-2 overall, 6-1 Sub-Region 7-AAAAA-A) visits Cass (4-8, 3-4) Wednesday for the second game in the series. The two teams play a third game Friday back in Dalton.
